I've lived in Secunderabad for couple of years and understand Telugu. I consider those couple of years as one of the best time I had in my life. A more appropriate question would be "Where do you originally belong to?" or "Where in India are you from?" These two questions have 2 separate answers for people like me. Answer to 2nd question is -- I am from Orissa. No 2 ways about it ! But originally I am from Andhra, cuz thats what we speak at home and my 'mother tongue' is. This is why I get confused when people ask me "Where are you from?". I really have to ponder the intent of the question, before I answer it. It becomes ever more complicated when an American (with knowledge about India) asks me that question. Now I do not know if he is asking me -- "Where am I from in the US?", "Where I am originally from in India?" or "Where am I from in India?"
