Saurashtra Ranji team was in disarray. We hardly had anyone to look upto. In last 3-4 years Saurashtra has been doing really well in Ranji Trophy and are in Elite Group. There was no one remotely close to getting the call up in national squad. There was one Sitanshu Kotak, but he was very limited player and could eat up balls, so never really a serious contender. In came Pujara, then Jadeja and Now Unadkat. We will have 3 guys in national color all at the same time. Cricket in India is truly national, players are coming from small towns and smaller Ranji teams. Gone are days when Mumbai and Delhi ruled.

ah the Wise men of Indian Selection commitee. Either somebody must have told them that the IPL teams will not reach the later stages or the players will come back to play for the Board XI even if their team is playing the CL.

What dope are you on? Ask achilles, he will clearly tell you that only players from CSK, Tamilnadu and Cheeka's buddies will get picked in the Indian team.

^This is the problem for Raina in Ltd overs matches, particularly T20 where he has to score of every ball. He feels the need to fend at it. Had it been the same ball in a test match he would have evaded it well.

But the problem with Raina is a very poor technique, he looks clueless trying to play the short ball.

Look at the way Rahul Dravid dealt with the short balls and look at the way Suresh played them, that too in the same video. I read someone saying this is an old video but his technique hasn't changed much.

He actually plays a decent pull shot. I have not really seen him bring out a hook shot. But the problem for him in my mind seems to be an inability to direct the ball over the slip area when a bouncer from a right handed bowler goes past him - leaving him outside the off stump. From there, playing a pull will almost always get him in trouble. I really think if he can hold onto his pull shots and use them only when the ball is directed into him or at him, he will get much better results. Meanwhile he has to develop an over the third man stroke like Sachin if he has to use those short deliveries leaving him.

Squad : Gautam Gambhir (capt), Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, Piyush Chawla, Abhimanyu Mithun, Sreesanth, Jaidev Unadkat, Umesh Yadav, Abhinav Mukund, Ravindra Jadeja. I was hoping to see Rohit Sharma in the longer version and also Manish Pandey. It was a good opportunity to test him agaist international bowlers. And how long are we going to ignore players Rayudu and Nacheem? Why are we not bring them back into the main stream?

^ I think Rayudu is a MUST atleast in the longer format. And Manish Pandey is a tad bit unlucky. Maybe in the same boat as Che Pujara and Murali Karthik. GM, like a lot of other senior users, thinks that Rayudu might never play for India, given his ICL allegiance.

Pujara has been chosen. Murali Kartik is not the future as he won't play for more than two years.

No I'm not kidding. Pandey was the highest run getter of Ranjis last season and he does deserve a chance in games like these, even if it exposes his deficiencies. Only then will he know what he lacks and what are the aspects he needs to work on.
