Sreesanth, Unadkat in Board President's XI squad Cricinfo staff September 10, 2010 Sreesanth, the Indian fast bowler, will attempt to make another comeback to the Test team after being named in the Board President's XI squad to take on Australia in Chandigarh between September 25 and 27. The 14-man squad also includes rookie fast bowler, Jaidev Unadkat, who hasn't played a domestic first-class game yet but has had success on India A tours and in the Emerging Players tournament. The squad will be led by Gautam Gambhir, who missed two Tests and the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka because of a knee problem. Gambhir played only five balls in the Galle Test and was dismissed by Lasith Malinga in both innings. Sreesanth was also poised to make a national comeback during the Tests in Sri Lanka but he sustained a knee injury which ruled him out of the tour. Why do they need a 14 man squad for a Board Presidents XI.? Why do they need Ravindra Jadeja anywhere near what is a preparation for a place in a test side? Pick 12 players and let the other two go play domestic cricket. Instead Ravindra Jadeja and another 2 will sit warming benches and twiddling thumbs.

I like the look of the squad. I would pick Sree, Yadav / Mithun, Unadkat and Ashwin as the bowlers. GG, Dhawan, Rahane, Pujara and Kohli as the batsmen. Saha as the WK. And a toss up b/w Jadeja (for his bowling ability to support Ashwin) and Mukund.

Not really but I looked at him more as someone who could support Ashwin and also bat at #7. Which is why I am doing a toss up b/w Jadeja and Mukund (who is a batsman). basically a toss b/w Jadeja's bits and pieces ability and Mukund, 6th batsmen.

Ambati Rayudu, I don't believe will ever play for India. The ICL may have been disbanded the board 'forgiven' them etc, but I personally believe that someone somehwre will always stop the ICL players becoming part of the Indian team.

its interesting that you can bypass playing domestic cricket if you show some "talent" in India,that has changed at all and we have had mixed results.hope Unadkat and Yadav play well.

Many posters have said that Jadeja is better suited for the longer versions. Looks like Cheeka has been a regular visitor of these forums.

^ Yeah, because he is not a hard hitter of the ball. And a useful 5th option to keep things tight. He had a good Ranji season a few years back was nearish to the top of both runs and wicket takers. However he is definitely not test class. Surely Irfan was a better option for a test allrounder, where exactly is he anyway? Good squad for sure overall, would have been nice to see M Kartik there, and as SaneI says maybe Vijay too as lets face it he will feature in the tests if not for injury. And perhaps 14 is too many. Id go for ... GG, Mukund, Rahane, Pujara, Kohli, Saha, Ashwin, Chawla, Santh, Unadkat, Mithun I think Mukund has just creeped ahead of Dhawan in the backup opener stakes considering their relative performances on recent series'

Strangely, though, the squad features four players involved with the Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa - which ends on September 26, a day after the tour game starts. If all IPL sides make it to the semi-finals, to be held on September 24 and 25, the BP XI will be left with only 10 men. The BP XI squad includes only six specialist batsmen, two of whom - Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan - have a realistic chance of being in South Africa when the tour game starts. R Ashwin and Abhimanyu Mithun are the two other players taking part in the Champions League. Rohit Sharma, who was part of the squad in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka and is now available without any Twenty20 commitments, hasn't been picked. Picking a squad with only six specialist batsmen, even for a practice match, suggests the selection committee hasn't learned from its Nagpur fiasco last year. Irfan is out injured and is getting treatment at Sydney. Could well be out for 6-8 weeks.

ah the Wise men of Indian Selection commitee. Either somebody must have told them that the IPL teams will not reach the later stages or the players will come back to play for the Board XI even if their team is playing the CL.
