In the year 2008: When IPL started, the elitists said that IPL will kill Indian Test cricket and to a lesser extent ODI cricket. 2010: India is #1 in tests and #2 in ODI’s even reaching #1 in ODI’s for a very brief amount of time. ------------------------------------------- In the year 2009: When Pakistan won the World T20, everybody said that missing IPL was the main reason and some even suggested other countries to follow suit. 2010: Pakistan, still not allowed into IPL, crashes out and England win their 1st world title on the back of Kevin Pietersen’s Man of the series performance, who just weeks prior led an IPL team. ----------------------------------------- In the year 2009: When all 3 IPL teams failed to go to the semifinals in CL 2009, critics doubted IPL quality and said that IPL teams were crap. 2010: Not only 2 out of the 4 teams that made the semifinals were IPL teams, but an IPL team easily wins the finals to be crowned champions with its only loss in the entire tournament came in a super-over. What more, it wasn't the foreign players or even Indian international players, but local and fringe players that emerged as Man of match, Man of the series, leading run scorer and leading wicket taker in the tournament. ----------------------------------------- There were and is lot of criticisms on IPL and Champions league with people blaming everything they could think of on them but somehow, they are always debunked. I am not saying that IPL and T20 is the best, but just that it doesn’t warrant the amount of criticism it gets. Let’s just stop with the criticisms based on one-off results till an actual pattern emerges.

Okay just two points' date=' I don't think it is right for those who have contrary opinions to be called "elitists". Second, I think the pattern is emerging, just a matter of time before the bubble bursts.[/quote'] The elitist points to the people who think that T20's are a waste of time and tests are the best. What is this pattern you speak off, please educate us?

For CL, other teams should have a first right over their domestic players or they should be allowed to bring in 4 international players (including IPL players not playing the CL) in their team for the tournament as well. Sehwag/Yuvraj/Yusuf Pathan playing for Warriors vs CSK in the finals would have been so much more interesting to watch.

I agree with the first part, as for the second part, nobody has stopped them from doing it, but the question is why would they do it? Why would they pay ridiculously high wages for the likes of Sehwag/Yuvraj etc when they have a well knit domestic system and players from it who have played all season long and brough them to the CL and then suddenly you bring in international players with high wages and break the team combination to accomodate this international players. What incentive does it give the domestic players to perform well when they might be replaced come the CL time.

If the IPl teams go onto win another CL, this could become the norm. As to why they have not done it, I am not sure, perhaps they are not allowed to. I am sure there are 10-12 top quality players who themselves would love to play in CL if their teams hve not qualified and am sure they would not ask for a huge sum

Are you suggesting that Players should be brought in only for the CL? That is not fair to the local players who played hard to qualify for the CL in the first place. If you are suggesting that other teams should have foreign players in their domestic competition, its already being done. One of the 2 aussie team that qualified had Pollard and Afridi playing for them but unfortunately both players were unavailable during CL. When CL expands its purse, more teams will buy international players to play for them just like the IPL teams. Give it time.

Naah Pollard was available for South Australia and Bravo for Victoria but due to some strange rule, IPL teams have the first right over those players who have qualified for multiple teams. It should be the home team first and if the home team is not there, leave it to the player's choice whom he wants to play for. This will make the competition lot more fair.

There is nothing stopping the other teams from recruiting players from IPL whose team is not part of the CL. For e.g. had the CL tournament this season been a little later, the English county seasons, Hampshire & Somerset - winners & runenrs up of the domestic tournament would have participated. Murali Kartik, who plays for KKR in the IPL would have been in the CL as part of the Somerset team because KKR wasn't in the CL. IPL players would love to play in the CL for other teams, but my question to as like before is what is the incentive for a domestic player in Wayamba or Warrios to perform well in his domestic tournament, only to lose his plays to some foriegn recruit. A domestic player like Jacobs from the Warriors has now got international exposure, but if they had signed Sehwag for the CL, they would have had to dump him or the other oprner to play Sehwag. Surely Sehwags wages would be 3-4 times or even higher than Jacob or the other opener.

Firstly it's player's call, he has the option of choosing the team. Obviously players will always go for IPL teams as they offer a 'handsome' pay package compared to teams from other countries. Then IPL team should pay $2,00,000 compensation to the ‘home’ team. Yeah..in this case I don't think Mumbai required to pay anything as those are not teams from their home country.

I agree with BossBhai. The big problem even I have with T20 is the overkill. Look at our ODI status, it is made up to a large extent with the T20 stars and look how it has fluctuated over the last 3 year period. There is no consistency. The rise to number 1 in tests on the other hand is on the back of a solid set of players who have put years and years in the Test team.

So are you saying if the IPL had not happened India would not have become No.1 in test? Nice logic.

So are you saying if the IPL had not happened India would not have become No.1 in test? Nice logic. ipl was not there for 80 years of indian cricket history and look at our overall record. its dread fulllllllllllllllllllllllllll. we have not lost single series since last 2 years which tells that no harm is done.

And we have sadly become the laughing stock in international t20 cricket which does suggest that IPL has had an impact on the t20 skills of the players. IPL's biggest harm has been in making our younger players lazy and far too easily satisfied. Our overll fitness and fielding standrds which were on the way up from 2000 onwards have suddenyl regressed massively in the last 2-3 years. If a poor work ethic and lck of hunger to do well for country is not due to the esy money offered by IPL, what else could be the reson?

who really cares about international t20.ipl is more important, more interesting, more famous and more tough than t20 world cup.t20 worldcup is more a fluke.not much time is there for teams to comeback in t20 world cup.As far as players are concerned , We have best test and odi team we ever had.
