Im not sure how good Praveen is with the older ball as a test cricketer, we know he can swing the new one. He does have a good FC record I am guessing which suggests he must be able to trouble batsmen as it gets older. He seems capable of bowling long accurate spells when things are not in a apcemans favour- that might hold him in good stead. He'll certainly be useful inEngland Id have thought.

Disappointed by Yuvi's failure, If he can't negotiate medium pacers like PK, BK and RPS on placid tracks, it is quite foolish expecting him to score big ones againsy Internayional bowlers outside India in tests. In all probability, his test career is over.
:haha: We are still even mentioning "Tests" :haha: Thats a pipe dream for u-v - He better watch out to ensure he can do well in ODIs at least! Yep, not just "in all prob" - it is over, he needs to improve on ODI form and make sure he can make a big impression in WC2011

Discipline in dressing room key to good show: Bose Senior pacer Ranadeb Bose termed it the 'discipline in the dressing room' being the reason for Bengal looking a different side this season. More... Discipline in dressing room key to good show: Bose November 04, 2010 Senior pacer Ranadeb Bose termed it the "discipline in the dressing room" being the reason for Bengal looking a different side this season. "Bengal cricket has gone through a lot of turmoil in the recent years. It has gone through a transition phase. There were no settled playing XI in the past few seasons. With W V Raman's introduction, things have changed. "He has brought in the much required discipline and the dressing room atmosphere has changed a lot," said Ranadeb, who took three of the four wickets today to ensure three points for Bengal against Delhi [ Images ]. When questioned whether he can find the Raman-era somewhat similar to Paras Mhambrey's time, Ranadeb said, "Raman and Paras are two different human beings and different coaches. But yes, the emphasis on discipline and work ethics is same." Asked whether he has ever bowled close to 45 overs in an innings, he said, "I can't remember. I and Dinda bowled almost 90 overs which goes to show that we have been maintaining a good fitness level. "Also we complimented each other well. While bowling in tandem with him, I felt like I was bowling with my old mate Shib Shankar Paul. Me and Paul shared a very fruitful new-ball partnership for three seasons. Myself and Dinda are slowly getting there," Bose said. Delhi captain Mithun Manhas [ Images ] felt that some of the batsmen in him and Shikhar Dhawan [ Images ] should have converted their starts in to big scores. "Also their (Bengal) bowlers stuck to a disciplined line which was the key. We should have bowled better. As far as the pitch is concerned, it was same for both the teams. They played better than us and that's why they are going back with three points," Manhas said.

Only one result in the 1st round of Ranji super league! What a shame for the curators for producing these tracks where there just can't be a result unless the team is complete mismatch as it was in TN-Assam tie! TN batsmen have been disappointing however with Mukund failing to cash in yet again and Kartik falling for a duck. Sunil Sam, the kerala speedster playing for TN has taken 4 wickets in the 2nd inning.

Railways manage to salvage draw Hosts Railways showed some signs of life on the final day of their Ranji match on Thursday to salvage a draw against Gujarat. More... Cheluvuraj helps Railways save blushes Indianexpress, Vinayak Padmadeo, 05 November 2010 JP Yadav's leg-before-wicket dismissal at the stroke of tea on Thursday had the Railways in a bind. Yadav's was the seventh wicket to fall and the hosts were only leading by 59 runs. With the spectre of an innings defeat looming, the team's No.11 Shailender Gehlot, without wasting a second on tea and samosas hit the nets instantly. Giving him throw downs was TP Singh, his batting coach of the day. "Don't go for shots. With soft hands try to play the ball in front of your pads," was the plea. Luckily for Gehlot, his batting prowess wasn't called for as the Railways managed to get through the mandatory quota overs without losing another wicket. Minutes later the match was drawn and with it, Railways bagged a hard-fought point. In the end, it was a scramble to save the match. But starting off, the two overnight batsmen V Cheluvuraj and Sanjay Bangar had played out over 24 overs in the first session and were looking set to bat till lunch. They had put together 94 runs for the second wicket by then. Bangar then edged one to slips and in a space of 15 minutes, Railways were four down. Singh and Yere Goud were snared in the same over by Siddharth Trivedi. Then another sizable partnership of 72 between Cheluvuraj and M Suresh resurrected hopes. But Cheluvuraj, Suresh and Yadav walked back to the pavilion in quick time. Like his mentor Goud, Cheluvuraj thrives in playing out time and his 249-ball 73 went a long way in thwarting Gujarat. Mahesh Rawat played out the rest of time in tandem with skipper Murali Kartik, before the latter was castled by Ishwar Choudhary. Talking about his knock Cheluvuraj said: "Today was my kind of situation. I'm not an attacking bat. I can bat out a match. We were only there to bat out sessions." Kartik, though, was disappointed saying the Gujarat's first innings total was chaseable. "379 was gettable. So we need to up our performances in all the departments," he said. Brief scores: Gujarat 379; Railways 221 & 246 for 8 in 109 overs (V Cheluvuraj 73, Maripurri Suresh 37, Mahesh Rawat 22 n.o.; Salil Yadav 2/44, Siddharth Trivedi 2/55, Ashraf Makda 2/53, Ishwar Choudhary 2/57)

Right now teams get 5 points for an outright win, 3 points for a lead in the first innings incase of a draw and 1 point for conceding lead in the first innings for drawn matches. Perhaps the time has come to revise these points, 5 points for an outright, 2 points for a 1st innings lead and 1 point for conceding a lead. May encourage the teams to go for more outright wins and may encourage the home teams to prepare result oriented tracks.

Head start for TN November 7th, 2010 A job well begun is half done. Tamil Nadu was not completely dominant in their seven-wicket win over Assam but there was enough good cricket to ensure a safe campaign till the knockouts. There is no better example than history. The team has been carried away after one or two good games. It is important for Dinesh Karthik and his men to build it well rather than peak too early as they have done in the last two seasons. Adequate positives emerged from the season opener. The ability of S. Anirudha to adapt to varied demands was heart warming. After a workmanlike hundred at number six against Delhi in the quarterfinals last year he has followed up with two knocks of substance against Assam. Debutant Sunil Sam did the set the house on fire in the senior division league but came up trumps when it mattered. The knock of 74 from R. Sathish showed there is enough in the bench when bigger stars leave for national duty. Nothing matters more than winning and in that sense Tamil Nadu could not have hoped for a better opponent than newly promoted Assam. It goes without saying that batting will be TN’s strength and the bowlers will have to stick to the basics realising their limitations. The new ball department hinges heavily on L. Balaji’s rhythm. C. Ganapathy is a hard working bowler but not a strike force. The role of Sunil Sam stands magnified as the side continues in search for a speedster to provide them the cutting edge. A debut is relatively easy but the going will get tough in the next game against Delhi and it will be interesting to see how Sunil Sam stands up against a better set of batsmen. The spin department headed by R. Ashwin did not have the wickets to show. At the start of the season, with the wickets playing their best, being steady is what is expected of them and they filled that slot well. R. Aushik Srinivas can only improve with age; the rookie though must look at creating opportunities rather than wait for the batsmen to make mistakes all the time. Unless the heavily talented side makes an impact in the business end of the tournament they will not be doing justice. Taming opponents when there is little at stake does not call for mental toughness. The key is to continue in the right vein and play fearless cricket. Fear of failure has been the bane of Tamil Nadu for long. In the likes of Balaji, S. Badrinath and Dinesh Karthik the squad has seniors who badly want a Ranji title in their resume. The need to be cohesive as a unit never stood more pronounced. There were good reasons to be happy in the league stage last year. All the seven games were played outside home and the 50-day road trip made the team bond better. Unity the big factor lacking in the past is not a grey area anymore. It is a committed bunch enjoying each other’s success and it will be a total discredit if they fail to make an impact. Playing six of the seven games at home could help the side to top the group.

Hyderabad coach Raju resigns, Shivlal Yadav's son Arjun axed The humiliation that Hyderabad suffered in their Ranji match against Rajasthan has prompted their coach and batting coach to resign along with four senior players including HCA top boss Shivlal Yadav's son Arjun. More... Hyderabad coach Raju resigns, Yadav's son Arjun axed PTI, Nov 8, 2010, HYDERABAD: The humiliation that Hyderabad suffered in their Ranji match against Rajasthan has prompted their coach and batting coach to resign along with four senior players including HCA top boss Shivlal Yadav's son Arjun. In the aftermath of the defeat, during which the team was dismissed for 21 -- the lowest in Ranji history, middle-order batsman Yadav along with Anirudh Singh, Anoop Pai and allrounder MP Arjun have been axed from the side which will take on Jharkhand on Wednesday. The quartet has been replaced by U-22 cricketers Parth Jhala, B Sandeep, GH Vihari and Baseer. Head coach and former India spinner Venkatapathy Raju, and batting coach Vivek Jaisimha, put in their papers during an emergency meeting of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Saturday. Former Ranji captain MV Sridhar, who is also a member of the HCA's Cricket Development Committee, will replace Raju for Hyderabad's next three matches, sources said. Hyderabad lost the game by an innings and 256 runs, with Rajasthan's debutant medium-pacer Deepak Chahar grabbing 8 for 10 in the first innings. The 18-year-old went on to add another four in the second innings of the game. Hyderabad's Under-19 coach Kanwaljit Singh also resigned from his post after the team's four successive defeats. He has been replaced by Vijay Mohanraj, a former batsman.
