For once, I agree with dsr. This match was there for the winning. Between Australia unable to freely score, some very tight bowling by Ojha and wicket taker Zaheer we should have by rights bowled out Australia for under 300. Put it this way, we hold on to two catches (watson/paine) and Zaheer/Bhajji would have gone through the tail with the ball still reversing at the end of day 1. But instead we allowed Paine/Watson to go on a post career highs thanks to the clown show between Sehwag and Dhoni. But who knew we would drop 3/4 simple chances? No one can predict that kind of incompetence.

India V Australia on glorious HD, you'd think I'd be jumping out of bed to watch, wouldn't you? Nope, never watch when Sehwag is batting until he crosses 100. Can't bear it if he gets out while I am watching. Ruins my entire day. Anything under 150, and I need counselling. Sure enough, switch on TV, Sehwag's on 59, switch off and go for a run thinking we need a double from here if India are to win, sneak back after the run and find he's gone without adding anything. Match over for me. No Sehwag, no cricket.

If test cricket survives well, a lot of people will get very close to Tendulkar's record - the Kallis' , Ponting's ..and perhaps a few newbies who are not in the horizon hitherto. NO ONE EVER WILL GET EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT SEHWAG DOES. Perhaps 10,000+ test runs as an opener at a strike rate of close to 85, a rate that SRT scores at in ODIS. Insane Freak. Inhuman. No one has revolutionized test batting like Sehwag. He already holds the Indian record for the least # of innings to score 4K, 5K, 6K and 7K test runs. Ahead of many maharathis. We have already discussed the pace of those runs. Let us enjoy this man while he is there, for there will never be another one like him in our lifetime.

Viv Richards had revolutionised batting. But today there are so many lesser contemporay batsmen who have eclipsed Richards. Does that make Richards any less of a batsman? 10-15 years down the lane, there might be someone who will go beyond Sehwag. will that make Sehwag any lesser? You look at today's numbers and you dont value what Sachin did a decade ago in a time when what he did was impossible. Similarly after a decade the mordern T-20 fans will not value what Sehwag did in tests. Time is a b!tch. Like with any important moment in history,something viewed in hindsight as just a number is devoid of any passion and emotion attahced and will look ordinary. You have to have been there to have felt the magic just like now you are feeling Sehwag's magic first hand.

Richards butchered bowling the way only he could , scoring at 70runs/100 balls those days in tests was something unimaginable. Even in " easier times " of today apart from Sehwag whose career strike rate is at 82 runs/100 balls , the next best guy is barely 60runs/100 balls Sehwag not only makes gigantic scores, he scores at a rate of nearly 30 runs/100 balls faster than his next best competitor. For an opener that is unprecedented. No one in this HISTORY OF TEST CRICKET has the boundary hitting ability of Sehwag. BB have you ever done a piece of stat on avg boundaries/innings. I bet Sehwag stands mountains above the next best guy. The Aussies said in no uncertain terms before the start of the series - No one sets up matches the way Veeru does. He deserves the biggest credit for India being the No.1 test team, inspite of our avg at best bowling attack. WE have won so many matches in the last session of day 5 where undoubtly Sehwag's hurricane knocks have been the difference between a victory and a certain draw. This man has no peers.

I didn't say Sehwag is better than Tendulkar, simply that I follow cricket because of him. I have no doubt Tendulkar is a better batsman, but it's Sehwag's attitude I love. If he were an investor he'd be somebody like Warren Buffet. He sees opportunities where others can only see risk.

I dont dispute Sehwags greatness whatsoever. He will scale some stupendous heights never before imagined. Have a gander at the "Sehwag Stats - A Contrast" thread to know more. But lets not bring down other greats to prop up someone else is what I say. And yeah no-one will break baasu's Centuries record or his Intl Runs or even just the Test runs given that our babus are now scheduling more tests ... its a crying shame that we played just 69 tests in the 90s as opposed to nearly 100 in the 00's. His Test record would have been just as jaw dropping as the ODIs but for our idiot BCCI babus of the 90s. ohh well.

Not trying to run down anyone. Just that I have never seen such a combination in my life utter utter destructive scoring rate + Ability to rattle mammoth scores + As a batter changing the game in a session. Sehwag is the rarest of geniuses. Let us not get presumptuous regarding SRT. Who is to say, how his body would have held up by now had he played 100 tests in the 90's rather than 69. Perhaps he would have retired 2 years backs ? They say, it is not the years in your life that matter, it is the life in those years that matters. I would apply the same to Sachin vs Sehwag test performances.

There is one small thing you simply refuse to understand. Sehwag, etc are NOT Sachin's peer. Sachin was peerless in his prime in the 90s. Just as you cannot compare any other batsmne of the 90s with someone presently playing, similarly Sachin's performance when he is on the wane shouldnt be compared with someone who is in their prime After ten years if some kid comes when Sehwag is on the verge of retiring and scores at 100+ strike rate because of flat pitches and T20, will it automatically mean that he is better than Sehwag? I seriously dont want to turn this thread into another Sachin vs rest so lets leave it at this or start a new thread
