So I can understand why Ponting got upset, particularly because Zaheer had nothing to do with the wicket anyway. Put it this way, if you had just been run out and an opposition player did that to you, would you be happy? Perhaps Ponting was wrong to raise his bat, but not neccessarily wrong to react. It was Zaheer at fault in this situation.

On another day, I would have looked up videos on youtube to show you that the Australian players, having nothing to do with Bhajji or Zaheer getting out, have mercilessly sledged them. Infact, the Bhajji incident was very similar to this one involving Ricky. He was patiently walking off and then 11 players picked on him, lead by Adam Gilchrist. He came back and gave them some verbals and guess who was criticized in the media - Harbhajan Singh. Zaheer & Ricky have an old account which they constantly try to settle when batting, bowling, fielding. I think Zaheer was simply trying to rile up an outgoing batsmen, something which happens during every BG trophy game with the Indians being the victims and the Ashes, with the Poms being the victims. Ricky could've and should've done better. During the earlier part of their careers, I know for a fact that Sachin & Rahul Dravid coped with a lot and no one is happy when they get out. It however doesn't mean you give your attention to someone who is trying to annoy you. Thats not cricket. Thats being stupid and egoistic. Instead, I'd have prefered if Ricky had walked off quietly and responded with a 100 in the next inng (which he maybe will).

Dont see the big deal. Just like the ashes no such incidents should be reported to match referee. Just men playing tough and they go hard on pitch and can have a drink together after the match (Aussies can sip some weak beer while men of india will drink whisky). Just like ashes no need for match referee.

Firstly, I judge each instance on how it is not what has happened in the past because that encoruages bias. Secondly, maybe he should have just walked off.. But not everybody is that calm unfortunately.

As I was saying earlier today to one of the other posters' date= the real gangsters don't even play for Australia any more. If all it takes for these boys to get riled up is a team comprising Punter, pup and twatson, all I can say is sweet lord have mercy on them. If these guys got a mouthful from the Chappell brothers, Marxh, Lillee, thomo, Merv etc I reckon they would be crying for a year to their mothers. Many of these lads need to man up themselves before doling out advice on manning up to the Oz players. Makes me wonder what kind of cricket these guys played in school if we turned out such a generation of whingers.

Agree entirely, Bradman99. A riling comment as a batsman is walking past is every bit as bad as an aggressive send-off.

Similar instances from the past help you judge the present better. We can't have a different stick to whip Indian boys and a different stick to whip, say the Australian boys, who have a history of mischief. In India, we have this great song which goes "Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, Logon ka Kaam Hai Kehna" (English - People will always say something or the other, for that it what they do most of the times). Maybe Ricky needs to listen to some of those magical lyrics and not let the opposition make him a lose situation. This is what Sachin and Rahul do. No matter what is said to them, they don't care. They take it in their stride and use it as motivation and this endearing approach wins them a lot of admirers, even in the rival camp. Good to see both of us agree on the second part :two_thumbs_up:
