Our greatest batsmen SRT has only been accorded the utmost warmth in Australia, its a pity we lack the same courtesy.

i was at the ground today. yes they did boo when ponting entered. in fact they booed every batsmen that walked in. the deafening cheers at the fall of a wicked will quickly morph itself into a boo when the next batsman entered the field. it kind of looked/sounded funny. the crowd was basically loud in its cheering of the wicket that feel and in comes the next batsman. it was like they did not want the batsman to assume that they were cheering his entry so quickly they turned that in to a boo. i dont think it was specifically targetted at ponting, it happened for all batsmen there were a bunch of college students who started 'ponting down down' chant. but it quickly died down due to lack of support from others. IMO, there was nothing to suggest that ponting should take offense

You mean like how the greatest bowler was appreciated by Aussies?? even when Murali is a great personality on and off the field. Do you think that this would have happened to Gilchrist or Warne? The crowd doesnt like Ponting for a reason. He is a an ass.

Ricky Ponting walked out to loud booing, and walked off to some more. It was a completely different sight from Mohali where a small crowd cheered every good effort by Australia, even diving efforts in the field. A healthy crowd in Bangalore booed every batsman who walked in, but reserved the worst for Ponting. Not that I condone any jeering, but maybe it has to do with the fact that Ponting is a poor sportsman, whiner, a cry baby, and merely a modern day great as opposed to Tendulkar who is the paragon of sportsmanship, conduct, and an all time great. Comparing Tendulkar's and Ponting's stature in the game is rubbish. Having said all that, crowds should never boo or jeer anyone, IMHO.

Not that Ponting has taken personal offence. But when SRT enters or leaves a ground in OZ he gets standing ovations. Can't we atleast manage a cheer for the second best batsman of our generation? Whatever said and done, with 12K runs to his name Ponting is a genius and probably a once ina lifetime batsman.

the jeering was just a spontaneous reaction especially after what has been going on in the press n the lead up. In my experience watching cricket at inndan grnds i have never heard indian crowds cheering an in coming foreign. batsman when he walks in. unless he's playing for IPL having said that, the crowd does clap and cheer milestones like hal centuries, centuries by batsmen, and when team score reaches 100, 150, 200 etc

I believe it was cause of his recent biatching about Laxman's injury and not allowing a runner. Yes, jeering is perfectly acceptable if that's how the public feels about a player. As long as they don't throw bottles or utter racial slurs, a bit of boo and jeer is all part of the welcome package that opposing players, especially the ones whom the fans consider as a jerk, should expect.

Has ponting ever said anything about Indian players or India to discredit his conduct? Even his appealing etc is to win for his country, its not as if he raised Bucknor's finger against his will. I am not sure what part of his conduct you are specifically referring to which has been uncivil with respect to India.

People dislike Ponting.. Was Warne ever jeered? The biggest cheer of the day was reserved for Adam Gilchrist when he was shown on the big screen... You get what ou deserve... I didn't hear this squad when Harbhajan Singh was booed consistently during 2008 tour down under??? It was rubbish... I wouldn't have booed Ponting.. but being a professional sportsman he has to take it chin up.... And don't tell me crowds don't boo players of touring teams in Australia, not only harby but others have had the misfortune too.. remember "Hadlee is a w*nker" cries???

But to give you an example, Ponting approved of a catch against Ganguly and claimed a catch against Dhoni, both of which were shown to be clearly turfed in the Sydney test, when the captains were supposedly playing under a gentleman's agreement.
