Rajiv Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Taking a leaf outta "Ponting prefers Ashes", most teams and fans eagerly look forward to that 1 series but off course some are rated higher than others Lets see how most teams see it India 1) Australia ( This can be argued, we typically say Arch-Rival Pakistan but in reality, we don't even play them that much so I'd pick Aus over any other team for the sheer competitiveness ) 2) Pakistan ( Even though they rank low in the ICC rating and have whole bunch of new players, it's a dog fight out there and everyone is on their toes as no one wants to lose ) 3) South Africa ( Its like love/hate relationship, matured players and its class pace vs grace ) 4) England ( If I want to watch India v/s England, I wanna see a India tour England series only ) 5) Sri Lanka ( Mirror image of Indian cricket team in many ways, almost like southie cousin, at times it almost looks like a Ranji Game ) 6) West Indies ( Again, if not for the talent, I would like to see India tour Windies mostly for the atmosphere, history and crowd ) 7) New Zealand ( Not much fizz, good cricket and one of the least desired ) 8) Bangladesh ( Well ! ) Australia 1) England ( It goes without saying, perhaps the only series which involves all cricket lovers ) 2) South Africa/India ( I think many Aussies would be divided on this one, but I think most would vote for South Africa as it's all out safari out between the 2 teams. As for India, we are like a pain in the butt, annoying spinners, big stars, and crazy Indian crowd who won't accept any nonsense ) 3) New Zealand ( Tasmanian Cousin - underarm incident, history ) 4) Sri Lanka - Almost like India, another spin grave 5) West Indies - Rated so low coz of the decline in Windies Cricket but any Aus tour of WI is nothing short of excitement 6) Pakistan - For them, its like I have play to them coz its on the notice board. Even though they lost to them, a proper cricket series will see Pak reeling 7) Bangladesh - Same As above Please contribute for other teams or write your own
Cricketics Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 You have summed it up pretty well. Though i would like to add, just even from seeing the internet forums, after Ashes, B/G trophy really brings all cricket lovers together. Lot of people look forward to watching India/Australia series now a days compared to the past. Ashes without any doubt would remain the most popular event followed by India/Austrlaia and India-Pakistan at same level in terms of most viewers watching the game.
cowboysfan Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 i know it wont happen but a five test series between the aussies and india would captivate the cricket world just like the Ashes.I see no reason why we cant do well in a 5 test series as we generally better as the series progresses .
Rajiv Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 I really don't get the 2 test formula, AFAIK, the last time we played a 5 test series was vs Windies
Rajiv Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 Pakistan 1) India - Its a personal grudge of every Pakistani to beat India in almost every aspect, be it cricket or anything else. No matter what, India will always remain the top priority for Pakistan 2) England - There has been so much bad blood between the two teams over the years, it's almost like kids of 2 different schools trying to fight over a game of Ring a Ring ' o ' Roses. 3) South Africa - Pace connects the 2, although a slight imbalance over the years but Saffies love taking it and giving it 4) Australia - It's like a trophy which reads " See, we beat them", Aussies are all weather choice 5) New Zealand - They love to play there coz of the lovely laid out green pitches so they unleash another rookie which has worked for them 6) West Indies - Slightly better if not on par, depends where they play but don't can be exciting due to some fiery hitting 7) Bangladesh - they both a natural connection 8) Sri Lanka - It's like a Wild Card, we don't mind losing to you, we just want to pan how you can affect the Indian cricket team, on the field or anywhere else
Gunner_Mania Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Sri Lanka 1) Australia- the Murali connection 2) India - While they may be like Southie cousins to us with whome we play Ranji, I think it is the other way for them. India is teh Big Bro they want to beat and show their supremacy in the sub continent 3) Rest - I don't think they have any rivalries as such 8) Bangladesh - As you say, well!!
girishk14 Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I personally like the Ind-SL rivallry in spite of the overdose (9 tests and some 30 odis? in 3 years) . . . both teams are filled with unorthodox players . . . some of the best matches in recent times were ind - sl - 1st and 3rd test match @ SL, ODIs in Ind last year where scores of 420+ and 360 + were scored n chased
99.94 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 For me England is at the top, then India, then SA, then NZ, then who cares.
Jersey #10 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 South Africa: India Australia England NZ SL WI Who cares!!! Bangla - No one cares
Rajiv Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 For me England is at the top' date=' then India, then SA, then NZ, then who cares.[/quote'] I was close
Raghav_12 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 South Africa: India Australia England NZ SL WI Who cares!!! Bangla - No one cares My perception is that SA would rate India = Australia = England. They have healthy rivalry going with all three of these.
IT_Anxiety_NJIT Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Only rivalries that exist in cricket are Aus/Eng, Pak/Ind & Aus/NZ....rest are just opponents.
Rajiv Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 South Africa: India Australia England NZ SL WI Who cares!!! Bangla - No one cares For Saffies IMO 1) England - There is a certain urge or wish to just beat the guys who came up with the game 2) Australia - Pure EGO, all out sledge fest 3) West Indies - Geographical and any other reason whoch suits you 4) India - Beat No.1 team, good competition 5) Pakistan - Notorious, smash their pace 6) New Zealand - Again, meet another child of the qeen 7) Lanka - Mostly, u are another test team with experienced players 8) Bangladesh
Rajiv Posted October 11, 2010 Author Posted October 11, 2010 Bangladesh 1) New Zealand and New Zealand only - if you get my drift
