gaurav92 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Mine would be Watson Sehwag Ponting Tendulkar Jayawardena Kallis Sangakkara Swann Vettori Zaheer Steyn
King Tendulkar Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 How can people put watson in. He is a makeshift opener and ordinary. Yeah had decent series against us but flash in the pan. He sums up why aussies are average now
ZodiaC Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Mine would be Watson Sehwag Ponting Tendulkar Jayawardena Kallis Sangakkara Swann Vettori Zaheer Steyn Shakib > Vettori IMO
gaurav92 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 How can people put watson in. He is a makeshift opener and ordinary. Yeah had decent series against us but flash in the pan. He sums up why aussies are average now Watson has done well in every condition, spinner's paradise or the Swinging Greentops. He has been very consistent with the bat.Watson has opened for the Bulls in the domestic arena, but given that Aussies had such great opening pair of Hayden and Langer, Watson wasn't tried. He took the role just 2 years back once Hayden retired, and was successful. To me he looks a very good A/R who can bat up the order.
gaurav92 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Shakib > Vettori IMO InTest Cricket ? I don't know how did you come to that conclusion, may be by judging from the recently concluded Bangladesh v/s NZ series.Let me remind you this isn't "fatafat Masala Kirkut" wherin you may play anyone who has done well, Shakib doesn't have the technique to be a part of the World XI.On the other hand, although Vettori isn't any better as a batsman, but surely he is way ahead of Shakib when it comes to bowling. He has a lot more variations, and more importantly the control over them.So stop making comments for a team such as World XI on basis of a couple of Good performance.

Do you seriously think I'm dumb enough to suggest Shakib is good after a good run in the ODI series? From what I've seen him bowl in SA, against England in England etc, in TESTS, I've made this statement. And I guess this is current XI - where players are chosen on their recent performances? Best Test spinners against top teams since Jan 2009 (Qual: 250 overs) Graeme Swann 18 83 24.95 51.0 6/ 0 Shakib Al Hasan 10 45 33.00 67.7 3/ 0 Nathan Hauritz 12 44 33.56 66.8 2/ 0 Harbhajan Singh 10 41 35.80 74.9 2/ 0 Rangana Herath 8 35 36.34 70.8 4/ 0 Saeed Ajmal 8 30 37.13 79.1 1/ 0 Sulieman Benn 12 42 37.54 80.3 3/ 0 Danish Kaneria 10 41 39.60 65.9 3/ 0 Daniel Vettori 10 34 40.41 91.2 0/ 0 Muttiah Muralitharan 8 31 41.74 78.6 1/ 0 And this is my opinion, you may agree orr disagree with it.
Sachinism Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I would put Twatson instead of Smith and Swann instead of Bhajji.. Agreed. As much as I hate twatto he's batting quite brilliantly
fineleg Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Agreed. As much as I hate twatto he's batting quite brilliantly Hmm...Like dsr I dont like makeshift Watson. I think Graeme Smith is better. You can say even Sehwag is makeshift, but still...GS seems better than SW.
Sachinism Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 For a current World XI I'd still go with twatto, he's been piling on runs and has looked reasonably comfortable doing so. Known as a biffer, but he held together the Aus innings in the 1st test
King Tendulkar Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 The watson fan club have gone bonkers. He is about as close to a world 11 as Murali Vijay. Talk about pumping someone up after ONE series. Yeah he did ok in the current series but hardly is he now world 11 stuff. People choosing Watson over proven , established performers like Smith and Gambhir are crazy. Even someone like Strauss or Gayle are better choices then Watson. The guy averages 39 and has only 2 test tons and suddenly people put him opening in a world 11. Even on current for he is not all that. In tour of England finished with avergae of 16. Sorry Watson promoters have over egged this one!
King Tendulkar Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Watson Sehwag Sangakara Tendulkar Amla Laxman Tim Pain Swann Amir Zaheer Steyn Paine :omg: He wont even make the aussies 1st eleven when Haddin is back, let alone a world 11!!

I understand that Watson's average isn't the best. But given his current form, he is more than likely to make a cut in the World playing XI for me.And talking about Murali Vijay, I don't think you are making a fair comparison. On any given day I will chose Watto over Vijay, and not just me ,in fact anybody would. Smith isn't the best batsmen around, for a while, his batting has been inconsistent, he didn't do any good in the series against India, plus he is very vulnerable against left armers who swings the ball back in to him.Surely he can't make it to a World XI.Second choice about Gambhir, he isn't in the best form currently, short of runs, and injuries are hampering him.The reason Watson is chosen ahead of a Strauss is because he adds balance to the side, with his all round skills, he is a decent bowler as well, and his batting is more or less the same as Strauss. KT you may agree to disagree there but its just my opinion as Zodiac said. @ Zodiac, Mate, no hard feelings, was just my opinion on Daniel Vettori because he has been a word class A/R for the last couple of years.Has been the only NZ player lifting his team from the hole on numerous occasions.Although Shakib isn't bad either, he has done well in the recent past as well :) mate. Paine :omg: He wont even make the aussies 1st eleven when Haddin is back' date=' let alone a world 11!![/quote'] I LOL'ed at that
ch1234 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Grame Smith Virendar Sehwag Ponting S. Tendulkar Laxman Kallis Swann Anderson Steyn Zaheer Khan and Bollinger

The same can be said about Shakib as well, their team is overly dependent on him. Atleast NZ has a decent side on paper. Captaincy has affected his perfo a little bit lately, but he's a much better bowler than his averages suggest. Has 5fers against all teams (including us) - says a lot about his talent. I'll back him to do as well as Vettori, if not better :) No issues at all, bro
jusarrived Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Paine :omg: He wont even make the aussies 1st eleven when Haddin is back' date=' let alone a world 11!![/quote'] Paine will be a ~50avg batsmen & looks very impressive with the gloves, may be they will pick Haddin for ashes cos of experience ..but that dosen mean Haddin is better .

Not sure about the ~50 average tho.

Got a better argument? And no, I'm not in his 'fan club'. I hate him and its quite clear.
ensd2 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 1. Sehwag 2.Tamim 3. Amla 4.TENDULKAR 5.Sanga 6.MSD 7.Swann 8 Shakib 9. ZAHEER 10.JOHNSON 11 STEYN
Andy Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 For heavens sake people need to Understand that Watson is a makeshift opener, who plays most of his shots square of the wicket. Hardly plays within the 'V'. The guy is one 'Cross Batted' player who wont be making runs anywhere other than Flat tracks. Yes he is a good Player of Spin Indeed. But not Quality Fast bowling.
