Let him rest for NZ Tests + ODIs. He can come back fresh for SA. He is burnt out. Too may International matches' date=' IPL, Champions league[/quote'] What kind of cricket fan are you? No player should EVER rest from tests. NZ will b ecompetitive and we need the best team out to make sure we hammer them and maintain our number 1 status. He should certainly rest from odi series and miss the odd odi series in the future.

He will certainly miss the odi series against NZ and will play tests

Thats good if that happens. But how do you know? Any source or just an eductaed guess?
Just a guess but heard Dhoni 's press conference,he sounded like he has demanded rest for the full series, but I feel he will captain against NZ in tests, who will not like to have 3 more wins as a Indian Captain:--D

IMO, he never had any form to lose. Comes in when there is no pressure, just a good runner, makes quick runs , has lots of N/Os and thus an inflated average. Has hardly 4 to 5 good knocks under pressure. He can never match Sehwag, Yuvi, Sachin or even Sanga in leading the innings from the front and dominating bowlers in a pressure situation.

As long as he doesnt "promote himself up" to no.3 and messes the batting order up' date=' everything is fine.[/quote'] I believe he should bat at 3 in ODI's( not 20-20), because he can take his own time to settle down.

If a wicket falls quickly he'll send Raina or Kohli- and regular chopping and changing will not be good- which will affect even in form players.

Raina and Kohli are doing a great job followed by Yuvraj. If Gambhir comes even one among them cant be sure of a spot. Also we need a big hitter lower down the order along with ensuring that the tail wont collapse easily. I think Dhoni is better suited at no.6 then followed by the all rounder/big-hitter and the bowlers.
