Guys throughout the 70's it was Sunil Manohar Gavaskar..Despite having G.Vishwanath and the spin quatret, the whole nation had one cricket god-Sunny Gavaskar In the 1980's it was one of the greatest allrounders of all time-Kapil Dev Nikhanj-the Haryana Hurricane.See my Sig which is based on a true incident will tell you how the nation worshipped thhis man. Despite having players of the calibre of Amarnath,Vengsarker,Srikanth and a demi-god in Sunil Gavaskar-It still was a one man show for the Indian public. For the last 2 decades there has been only man who had the nation in a frenzy-Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.throughout the 90's despite having Azhar and throughout late 90's and the2000's having players like Saurav,Dravid,VVS,Sehwag,Kumble no one else captured the Indian fan's mindl like SRT. For the next generation I don't see any new enigma emerging as the above mentioned names.Dhoni could have been there but since 2008,I am not quiet sure he is at the same level. Sehwag could have been there if he was on his own but for some reason he doesn't have the same aura as Kapil,Sunny and Sachin had in their prime. Yuvraj,Raina-are established enough and it's too late for them to get to that stage. Kohli,Vijay,Pujara,Ashwin??? REALLY.... who do you think is going to be the next GOD of Indian cricket???

I dislike the term god for sachin. Its kind of embarassing for indians. But I can see the next big thing in ODIs is kohli and raina and in tests, it is pujara dhoni , bhaj and zak also to attain legend of the game status by the time they retire.

p.s there will never be another god!
I am a Sachin Worshipper too but as a Kid the only cricketer I worshipped was Kapil before changing my religion to Sachinism

See legend and Cult like figure are two different things Rahul,Saurav,Anil,Vengsarker,Amarnath,Vishwanath are all legends but what sets them apart from Kapil,Sachin and Sunny are the cult like status they enjoyed

Never before and never again, only now and only for us! SRT is the greatest thing to have happened to cricket EVER! I am backing Raina to be the next big thing but not as big as SRT though.

Rohit Sharma. Once he loses 5 stone he will be unstoppable.
Add to that a 50 levels of talent and 100 levels of temparement and technique and 1000 levels of attitude

Although, its very difficlut to match sach's record. I guess Dhoni would be very close to sach in terms of overall contribution to indian cricket by the time he retires.

Nice' date=' Go on. :rotfl:[/quote'] mate, dhoni > any other indian cricketer ever(esp in ODIS) apart frm sachin. YOu take out dhoni, india loses 2 consecutive matches to the zimbos, you take out dhoni, india loses 90% chance to win 2011 WC. Its not tht difficult to replace gangu, sehwag, uv n co in ODIs but dhoni is very indispensible. he is an inspirational leader. captain cool and nerves of steel.
