How good is Virender Sehwag in Tests? Good enough to be named among the Legends?

Why do you think his average is so much worse in the 2nd innings? Is it because he struggles on pitches that offer something to the bowler's? is it the pressure? or is it the fact that there is maybe more of an expectancy for him to play a little more sensibly in the 3rd/4th innings in the match?
Not really. If you analyze all his dismissals you would not get an answer. He would get run out in one match then play over-confidently against a part timer and get out. I think it is combination of inconsequential nature of most of the 2nd innings he played and some poor shot selection etc. In the first innings he had time to pile up runs like 319, 309, 293, 254, 201.. et al. something you don't get to do in the 2nd innings.

If you look at the first innings stats, Sehwag is the most destructive opener and batsman the world has ever seen. Averages an astonishing 70 in first innings. Bowling attacks across the world simply fear from him. He is certainly a great player.

Averages 26 and 20 in South Africa and New Zealand Averages 40 in England - Alistair Cook averages the same Flat Pitches= Wonderful Batsmen Swing/Seam = Technique is wanting. Somebody like Dravid is a legend because he had the technique to play in all conditions

Equating Cook to Sehwag is not correct IMO. Cook has home advantage while Sehwag don't. Better take another visiting batsman, (possibly Saeed Anwar:--D) for a better comparison.

I'd say better to check your stats. Sehwag averages 62.09. Above him are McGlew (77.8), Justin Langaer (70.7), Simpson (66.1), Hutton (65.6) and Broad (62.2). Still pretty awesome because there's only hadful avove him who has done that.

So AUS, England and SA produce Flat pitches? He averages 60 in Australia. Has one Hundred in SA one 85 and 100 in England the only time he toured there.

Sehwag, Laxman, SRT, Dravid the four pillars of Indian cricket team and all of them are equally valuable to indian test cricket team..maybe one a bit more than other. But Sehwag is the most entertaining as far as I am concerned and when he gets going, he sets up the game very nicely for a win.

in which case he is correct. Overall in both first and second innings, sehwag is better but just in first innings , langer and company has better average as per the stats he posted.

As far as I know 1st inngs = 1st Match inngs + 2nd Match Inngs and this is what Vaibhav was refering to. Moreover just using 1st Match inngs stat is pointless.
yes you are right.
