Cricket_Guru Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Pakistan won, we are happy, who cares how cricinfo behave! its all for the good cause, isn't it? :--D
EnterTheVoid Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 GENERIC ADDRESS: WWW.CRICINFO.COM Looking at the three screenshots, I fail to understand where the bias comes in. For the English, Australian versions, the Ashes is making the headlines (note the Ashes time down counter) whereas for the Indian version, the India - NZ test is top priority (notice how the countdown is to the world cup).
EnterTheVoid Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 :hmmmm: What about the cricket fans from those countries? It's not all about India vs ___ . If I was a South African fan, I'm not sure I'd get excited about playing Pakistan is this crappy, hastily arranged series. Ditto for Australia - Lanka series. Do you think many Australian fans care about a stupid T20, ODI series with the Ashes barely two weeks away ?

AFAIK the SA-Pak is not a crappy hastily arranged series, Its part of the FTP schedule. Australian fans may not care, but that doesnt change the fact that the runs scored in there counts, every Australian loss means they slip down the rankings, the players also go into an Ashes with less confidence because of losses. Don't believe that the players dont care about their performances and are just playing against SL for the sake of it.
rahulrulezz Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 lol you guys sound like some of the Pakistani fans who blame Cricnfo all the time yet spend 23 hours of the day going over the website... Sometimes you gotta appreciate the free stuff
girishk14 Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Forget the historical part of it. Ashes itself is one waste of time and a bane to cricket. England - a very highly overrated team, and Aus (an arrogant team with no quality now) clashing in 5 test matches and 7 ODIs is really killing cricket.

And you think world cares about the dead boring series going on in India? NZ scoring 600 runs will surely be exciting. :winky: Cricket doesn't revolve only around India, that you are saying series involving SA, Aus, SL and Pak don't matter. It matters to people from those countries...b/w Pak vs SA is turning out to be the best ODI series ever played in cricket...just wait for the final...it's going to be another THRILLER! :two_thumbs_up:

Two mediocre teams making one mistake after another which is resulting into matches going to the last over, you surely don't call that high quality cricket do you?. Yes, the matches have been thrilling, but far from being of high standard. Drop catches , simple run out chances being missed, poor fielding, rubbish death bowling, brain freezes we have seen it all here.
saneindian Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Are you mad? SL are currently the best ranked team playing in the southern hemishpere and they are not even playing the Ashes :--D

Most of those crazy things happened during the pressure moments of the game, so it's understandable and well it makes matches more exciting.:winky: Regardless of all the flaws, both teams are fighting hard, and one match after another going down the wire speaks volume.
Ram Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 The whole tour-match-being-propped-above-test-matches may have been a non-issue, but there's absolutely no doubt whatsoever that there's a clear England-Aussie focus in cricnfo's reporting. Their matches get more coverage than the rest, their players get more coverage than the rest. Their careers are more closely followed, their injury updates more frequent. I mean, Kevin Pietersen has to only sneeze in a funny way for it to become front-page news in cricinfo. Michael Clarke gets to do his annual free, I-want-an-IPL-spot ad, Brett Lee gets give periodic updates on his rehabilitation via cricinfo. Shane Warne's words are printed like they're gospel. Its quite literally impossible to miss the slant in their coverage. But to be fair to them, they're not just a cricket site, they're also journalistic/news site. And much like other news/media organizations, they need stories that can take up space as well. And when it comes to cricket, nothing else captures the imagination and attention of the global cricketing public as much as the Ashes does. Ashes is a bilateral series, but with a global following, which is pretty unusual for a series played b/w only two countries. Besides, Cricinfo has an English owner as well, so the extra attention being given to them is hardly surprising. But amidst all this, lets not forget, as cricket fans, the great job cricinfo is doing in being the sole, dominant, high quality cricketing news site. I for one cannot imagine what cricket coverage would be, without cricinfo. In that scenario, I guess we might just have to stick to reading interviews of failed cricketers and upcoming youngsters make a case for themselves on a certain cricket website. :--D
