King Tendulkar Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 I hope we wont do what we have at times and thats go on tour without a back up keeper. Dhoni needs to grow up in this regard
CSK Fan Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 I hope we wont do what we have at times and thats go on tour without a back up keeper. Dhoni needs to grow up in this regard I don't think captain has much say in the award of contracts, thats completely to do with BCCI. dhoni interfering will be a conflict of interest
King Tendulkar Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Yeah but how can we go on ovearseas tour without back up keeper in squad. We did that for SL tour. Dhoni needs to miss odd odi series now
Ranjha Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 No contract for any other keeper. Dhoni making sure he snuffs out the competition very clever but selfish of him....he is definately a great tactician like vaibhav_delhi puts it but only off-field.:hysterical:
Ram Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 No contract for any other keeper. Dhoni making sure he snuffs out the competition Thats correct my friend, Dhoni is a scheming jackal! After all, a replacement keeper cannot be selected to the team unless he has a central contract right?
Sachinism Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 LMAO People making it seem like it was Dhoni himself who decided which players would get central contracts and what kind of contracts they would get
pensionplan Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 LMAO People making it seem like it was Dhoni himself who decided which players would get central contracts and what kind of contracts they would getActually Dhoni has no say or for that matter Sachin or any other senior player. It is clearly mentioned Shashank Manohar sat down with Srikanth to get the list of all that deserved a contract and based on what BCCI has budgeted he pruned the list to 24 as the cut off based on the amount to be doled out. Makes sense to me.
achilles Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 very clever but selfish of him....he is definately a great tactician like vaibhav_delhi puts it but only off-field.:hysterical: I've been saying that for months now. He's the biggest politician in our team. He even plays a lot of politics on the field.... conveniently holding himself back and sending youngsters to bat ahead of him in bad situations and then walks in to score a 50 to maintain the average and steal the limelight. Also, Dhoni is well aware that Uthappa is now regarding himself as a keeper-bat and DK is a good batter in all forms. And then we all know the "fraaandships" that he has in the board. Dhoni seems to be a very insecure cricketer. And I'm sure that when the time is right, Raina will call the shots on people, like Dhoni has a lot of times.

Chandan Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Pruning down the contracted players list appears to be a smart move Central contracts: BCCI in save mode By: Sai Mohan Date: 2010-11-14 : Mumbai Pruning down the contracted players list appears to be a smart move Trust the Board of Control for Cricket in India to provide a surprise element in anything they do. The latest surprise is pruning down the list of contracted players. Discarded all-rounder Irfan Pathan Some of the prominent names missing in the new contracts' list released earlier this week are Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Dinesh Karthik, S Badrinath, Shikhar Dhawan, RP Singh and Sudeep Tyagi. A BCCI official told SUNDAY MiD DAY that it was unnecessary to reward fringe players financially through the year. Hence, the board decided to get rid of Grade 'D' in the contract system. Last year, Javagal Srinath told this writer that good remuneration helps improve the mindset of a player and allows him to bring out his best on the park. He also said players in 'Grade D' - which was discarded in the new list - are most likely to benefit since they sense trust of the national selectors. "Handing a contract to a player is an investment. The youngster must look at upgrading himself and work towards becoming better because the board has decided to entrust faith in him," said Srinath. No play, no cash In the news system, if Irfan is picked to play for India, he would be given a Grade 'C' contract on a pro rata basis and paid only half the amount that a contracted player would get. In a nutshell, BCCI has affirmed that only the privileged few are eligible for a contract which may not be a bad way to go about things. Fast bowler Rudra Pratap Singh is a case in point. The left-arm swing bowler didn't represent India in a single match in the last 12 months, but took home an annual income of Rs 40 lakh. Likewise, Wasim Jaffer and Mohammad Kaif were contracted all through the 2009-2010 season without playing a single Test or ODI. Irfan reckoned that being handed a contract does not affect a player. "These things don't really matter. The commitment level will remain the same. Grade A, B or C or even no grade doesn't make a difference when you are playing for the country. I am still hopeful of making the World Cup squad," said Pathan. Getting fit The 26-year old all-rounder paid a number of visits to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore over the last two months. "They tell me that currently I am out of the team, but will be back soon if I work hard," said Irfan, who has been out of top-flight cricket for the last few months. "Right now, I am just training to get fit. Hopefully, I can start bowling in full steam by next month. These contracts don't matter," he said. Before signing off, he applauded the media. "It is good to see Ranji Trophy getting good coverage. With no IPL before the World Cup, this is a good stage for youngsters to get noticed by selectors," said Irfan. -------------------- Got to know about Irfab after a long long time. Hope he gets fit to give a few good performance in Ranji to catch eye!

Central contract system has more pros than cons MAKARAND WAINGANKAR BCCI's central contract system is a laudable step. Potential players are now categorised in three grades and paid contract fee per annum. Though the BCCI was late in embracing the concept of central contract, it was well received by the senior players. The system has more pros than cons. There is no scope in the contract for grievance. Before the contract system, player's medical expenses were borne on ad-hoc basis and there was no system in place to check the fitness of the players. The grade system ensures that players are not only paid handsomely but their medical expenses are also taken care of. If at all the system has a loophole, it's the way players are assigned grades. Consistent performance combined with potential must be the criteria for the selection of players but one glance at the gradation of players and the process seems to defy logic. The case in point is demotion of Yuvraj Singh from A to B grade and promotion of Suresh Raina from B to A grade. Statistics prove that Yuvraj Singh is well ahead of Raina in Tests and One Dayers. In Tests Yuvraj Singh didn't get a long run as he was always called as replacement for one of the stalwarts in the middle order. After playing 34 Tests and 255 ODIs either he should be in A grade or he should be out of the system. A BENCHMARK NEEDED How does Suresh Raina with 6 Tests and 104 ODIs get a promotion to A grade? Shouldn't there be a benchmark of playing minimum number of Tests and ODIs to get into any grade? The Indian team management seems to have different yardsticks for different players. Raina replaced Yuvraj in Sri Lanka because he was down with dengue. Raina scored a hundred on debut and retained his place for the next Test but though Murali Vijay batted superbly and scored a stylish century against Australia, Gambhir replaced him for the Test against New Zealand. And mind you Gambhir isn't in the same form that he was in 2009. In the bowling department Sreesanth and Ravindra Jadeja haven't been performing consistently. If potential is the parameter, then that is not backed by performance. In 39 Tests innings Sreesanth took 68 wickets at an average of 34.54 and in 48 ODI innings he took 68 wickets at an average of 34.20 while Ravindra Jadeja in 32 ODI innings took 29 wickets at an average of 41.55. THE IRONY Ironically Sreesanth who is in grade C is preferred to Ishant Sharma who is in grade B for the Tests. The potential young performers like Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Abhinav Mukund, Ajinkya Rahane, Dhaval Kulkarni and Yusuf Pathan ought to have been offered the contracts. In any sport a player is unable to judge his potential but if a player performs consistently, he has every right to feel demoralised on seeing the non-performers getting ahead in the game. The grading process needs to be transparent and fair for the system to work successfully. Discontented and wronged players is the last thing Indian cricket needs.

saneindian Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Irfan Pathan "Right now, I am just training to get fit. Hopefully, I can start bowling in full steam by next month." That will leave him with 2-3 last round ranji matches. Needs to get back to the field early if he has to have any aim for fighting for a spot in the WC squad.

I think with PK around and in the good books of the selectors and the team think-tank, he would make the cut, purely in bowling terms per se. Irfan needs to work on his bowling. If he delivers, he's a default selection, given his hard-hitting batting.
maniac Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Whats shocking is that R.Jadeja has the effing central contract.... Nah...infact it's shocking to see him get a grade c contract...should have been grade B for India's premier allrounder in ODI'S

As much as we hate saying this, he atleast performs, unlike Yuvraj. I have defended Yuvraj vehemently a few pages back, but lets not take anything away from Jaddu. He's good at his craft.
