At a PCB governing board meeting on November 1, chairman Ijaz Butt informed members that the ACSU would be contacted over the squad selection. The minutes go on to reveal that Butt will give the ACSU the 30 (or more) names and the ACSU will "give their feed back (not in writing) to PCB on whether there were some doubts about player(s)." There has been growing speculation in Pakistan over the past week that the exclusion of certain players from the current squad and potentially from the World Cup is linked to an ICC directive to ensure the integrity of the team, and thus the game. The ICC has issued repeated denials that it has any say over what is essentially an internal selection matter. "It's clearly not the job of the ICC to select any teams and we will not do so," the ICC's chief executive Haroon Lorgat told ESPNcricinfo. "It remains the responsibility of each member board, in this case the PCB, to pick its 30-man provisional squad or 15-player final squad for the World Cup 2011. However, the ICC, being a members' organisation, is always willing to provide feedback or support to any member that seeks its assistance on any issues." The PCB issued a press release on Saturday insisting that it was the board's "sole prerogative to select the squad" for the World Cup and that the ICC would not be signing off on it. But they did acknowledge that all players would be reviewed "through its Integrity committee and may seek the guidance of the ACSU on any player it wishes to select. The decision as to which players will be included in the 30-man provisional squad will remain with PCB." The initiative, it is believed, is a result of ongoing discussions between the ICC's Pakistan Task Team (PTT) and the PCB; the PTT was reconstituted in October to help Pakistan deal with a raft of corruption issues, as well as its core aim of helping the PCB deal with the absence of international cricket in the country. Effectively the board is asking the ACSU to share any information and concerns they may have over any player. The move has two purposes in mind. One, it will be seen as a further, unofficial confidence building measure in the PCB's battle against corruption, added to measures such as the tightening of the players' code of conduct, or the eventual implementation of an anti-corruption code to mirror the ICC's. But it is also an insurance against potential troubles in the future. If there are, for example, any doubts about Pakistan games at the World Cup, the board can at least correctly claim that all players involved had been cleared by the ACSU. Pakistan's selectors are expected to meet on Monday to put together a list of 40 probables which will then be sent to the ACSU later in the month. The final 30 probables have to be submitted by November 30. Three of Pakistan's players - Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir - have been provisionally suspended by the ICC over allegations of spot-fixing during the fourth Test against England at Lord's earlier this year. The full hearing into their case will take place in Doha, Qatar in January, ruling them out of the initial probables selection. Questions have also been raised, however, over the continued exclusion of two more players - Danish Kaneria and Kamran Akmal - from the current squad. Kaneria was not given clearance by the PCB to travel to the UAE for the Test series against South Africa. No reason has been made public by the PCB, though his entanglement in a separate spot-fixing case for Essex earlier this year may have something to do with it, even if he was eventually cleared by Essex police. Akmal was sent a notice by the ACSU earlier this year as well, but has not been selected for the current series on fitness grounds according to the PCB. Apparently, PCB is going to give a list of WC of probables to ICC, who will then clear the players, only upon which will they be selected in the final probables list. As much as they try to downplay the whole development, it is, without a doubt, a significant surrender of sovereignty on part of PCB. Not just that, apparently, PCB has gone to the extent of having a briefing session for its U-15 WC squad to warn them on the dangers and pitfalls of spot- fixing, apart from a whole host of other anti-corruption measures. Why would a board go to the extent of doing so much in an apparent effort to clean up its whole act, if all the allegation of spot-fixing against its players are false?

hehe People are smoking pot if they belive that PCB had a change of heart and has decided to clean up its act. One should realize they had a bloody gun to their head and were asked to change which is when they did, not because they wanted to. Let us all just be happy that they are changing and move on. Don't forget the PCB (in all probablity) knows all details about match fixing -- when they met the trio the next day, yet NOT ONLY did they refute those charges, they are fully supporting. If indeed that is proven (and I do hope some player comes out and mentions this), I want PCB to be punished severly for that. No other board is that brazen and criminal as PCB is. Why is Wahab Riaz still playing when the whole world knows that the jacket has been exchanged? Problem is people are taking sympathy with this side because 3 cricminals are being punished (if that), but what everybody seems to be overlooking is there are other criminals that are probably being swept under the carpet? Yeah most people will jump here and say "May be there is not enough evidence", which could be true, but match fixing is extremely hard to prove and that is a fact, so any remote links with wrong doings should be punished. Pakistan was on the brink of being booted out of World Cup because of corruption.Most countries including asian block were in favour of this move. However Giles clarke blocked this move by supporting Pakistan at ICC meeting.It was agreed that if any player is found or suspected of being involved in corruption PCB will quietly sideline him. Not sure what you are thanking PCB for. AFAIK, ICC has issued an ultimatum to PCB to either cooperate or face elimination. ICC also has asked PCB to do everything in consultation with ICC. So PCB is cooperating not by free will but by force. They dont have a choice but do what ICC asks them to. However, if ICC thinks that they cans stop corruption just by screening the probables list, they are mistaken. They will just decide who all get fresh opportunities of corruption. It will be quite a while before they can clean Pakistan cricket, that is if they actually can.

That ‘Thank you’ wasn’t an expression of gratitude, but one of sarcasm. The mere fact that they’re even co-operating with the ICC on these anti-corruption measures, instead of vehemently protesting their innocence, implicitly proves that they know their players are guilty.

The problem with PCB is their financial status is worse than the god damn dogs and pigs on the street, but they want to do everything India wants to do. They want to stand up with India shoulder to shoulder on everything. According to at least one report -- PCB Chairman spent $16000/Day on a trip to Dubai ? For fuqs sake ?? 16000 USD ? I mean give me a god damn break. Even the bloody best hotel you can get a suite for 5000 USD in Dubai, what exactly was he spending ? BTW I still find that number hard to believe. They see their Indian Counterparts/IPL Owners living in style wherever they go and these fuqing beggars want to emulate them and guess what -- shoot themselves in the fuqing foot. They love to hype things remember when the scandal broke out the talk was Indians are Afraid of Asif & Aamir so this was the conspiracy of BCCI to bring pak cricket down.
