yoda Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Once dada is gone' date=' KKR will lose whatever remaining fan following they have.[/quote'] depends on whether they win some games or not. i am sure even kolkatta fans would take winning without ganguly over losing with him.
ZodiaC Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 depends on whether they win some games or not. i am sure even kolkatta fans would take winning without ganguly over losing with him. Ganguly's inclusion has got nothing to do with KKR not winning games. And irrespective of that, they'll lose a big chunk of fan following, obviously.
Ram Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 It’s the most predictable news of the world. When IPL first started in 2008, all the franchizes needed marquee names to establish an identity, especially with the local population. So Mumbai went for Sach, DC for VVS, DD for Viru/GG and KKR for Ganguly. They no longer need these names from the standpoint of establishing credibility with the fans. Of course, someone like Sachin is still the fulcrum around which the entire MI contingent operates. P.S; If the source in the OP were to be believed, it is surprising that CSK has exhausted all of its retainer quota to keep 4 players. That is a lot of money already gone. Seems like CSK gambled and chosen to retain the core batting unit, which probably is a smart move because who ever comes in fresh for the next year, they can pretty much build around the combo of Vijay-MSD-Raina-Morkel.
Hindustani Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Dada's lack of scoring or less not scoring fast is NOT KKR's problem, everyone failed in KKR equally and infact dada was one of the better performers, KKR's biggest problem is, poor management and leadership from the Onwer to Manager to Coach to Captain, they haven't anything right so far
yoda Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Ganguly's inclusion has got nothing to do with KKR not winning games. And irrespective of that' date=' they'll lose a big chunk of fan following, obviously.[/quote'] I didn't say his inclusion/exclusion has anything to do with them winning more in the future and I do agree that they will lose some fan following, but if they do win more fans will obviously come back as everyone likes to be part of a winning team.

Even if KKR lose with Gangs in the team, bengalis will still support KKR. But if ganguly is not part of the team, then they will lose majority of non bengali KKR fans & even bengali's won't be much excited IMO. Same with MI, without Sach don't think no one will be much excited, even if they the title.
pensionplan Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Winning puts everything else to sleep. Be it Ganguly or Tendulkar or Bradman. As much as fans may be fanatical about their hero's nothing beats the feeling of Winning a trophy or a Final. There is a reason why the 1983 WC win is still cherished. No one would have cared now or talked about if we lost the Final and everyone's hero of the time Kapil Dev scored a 150. There would have been no 25th anniversary celebrations at Lords couple of years ago that Gavaskar organized. This losing the fan base because of a washed up Ganguly not appearing in a KKR uniform is just a myth. Trust me let them go on a winning streak and there will be butts in the seats at the Eden Gardens - Ganguly or no Ganguly. Cricket is a religion in India and it is bigger than any single payer and certainly over 20-20 misfits such as a Ganguly.

I do agree with you, But for that we need to Replace an 'Indian' player with Ganguly. Cant see anyone around other than the big Boys of Team India, but why will they quit their teams or Vice Versa.

Fans are supporting IPL teams because either it is their home team/their fav players are in the team. FACT. Get on with it. This is IPL - which is just a platform for players to make some bucks and fans to see their favorite players/team play. And BTW why there were still butts on eden gardens even after their teams keeps on losing? :hmmm:

Yuvraj also can be a prospect. According to me these two are the only ones around whom a team could be built. I hope Ganguly leaves KKR and goes to a team which values him.

As of Yuvraj, he will be a Gamble. One 50 of 20 balls then another few string of Low scores, where as Ganguly has been consistetly good for the Most part. I heard KKR are trying to get Yuvi, Hope thats not true and Buy Ganguly from Auction. As far as Valuing him is concerned we can talk only after what happens in auction, We shouldnt expect them to use 1.8 Mil on a player who is not playing any forms of cricket for 1 year and this may be his Last Year You never know.

Texy Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 KKR management and owner should replace the whole team w/ pak XI --- that should be the new face of KKR...the jerseys should change from purple to green and they should add a star and half moon just for the kicks

girishk14 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 KKR did badly in matches because Dada wasted balls in many chases, and putting too much pressure in the end on tiwary n matthews.
girishk14 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: morkel retained ahead of dougie and murali :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Seriously, what is the management thinking? A half cricketer who cant bowl for nuts (miserable in pak series), and gets loads of single digits with the bat, with a few occasional big sixes which are totally unreliable? That too ahead of the worlds current greatest bowler, the guy who changed their IPL fortunes (dougie) and the man who can play an amazing innings against any team, in any condition, (hussey) ?
