I was very excited then. But the alas, he daded away.

No. HE had this tendency to play without moving his feet. And he did that all too frequently. Infact he was also taken to Austraila as an opener and he did struggle. But he was a very graceful player. And he along with SS Das(One more name came to my mind!!) gave us that wonderful start in the 2001 kolkata test. SS Das literally got under the skin of Shane Warne there. Golden memories those!!

Ramesh was ONE BIG Fatto offspinner who could hardly field and was a failure as a batsmen.. i mean he was just a good offspinner .. but one offspinner who was a big liability as a fielder.. I would say he was LUCKY to have played for INDIA for more than 10 One days and a few test matches as well so he is one of thos guys who got more than he deserved specially seeing his tummy.... David Boon , Aravinda and that lankan captain would be happy to see him play for India as they could tell there boards that fat guys can also play cricket... do u know Ramesh is now around 90 Kgs at 5 8 " height

Leave alone extended runs. Some of them did not or not even got a sniff at the Indian team. Now the true colors are out.

sachin thanks for your point and your suggestion about Ramesh but dear in today's times when there are at least 6 to 8 serious contender for each position in Indian cricekt team, a fat guy cannot field well, i mean he cannot run fast or he does not have good stamina so he should not be playing for long..se today all fit good teams who field well do not have one fat player.. see s africa australia ...focus on fitness is too much, seee gary kirstein he is so fit , he declared after our 20 -20 debacle that there r fat and unfit players like rohit yuvraj who need to reduce fast else they will end there career.. today UV is in grade B ..WHY bcos of Beer,girls and being a bit fat.

Dear All, India has produced some really very talented batsman and Bowlers & even Allrounders , I wanna discuss some of those who did start their international career but could not really do well because of some reasons.. So i want all of you to remark or comment about their talents ( whether they were really big talents or not ) and as to why did they fail, what should they have done to suceed... Please Note we are talking about Indian Players only... I will highlight Some of them.... 1. At the top of my list is Vinod Kambli....Some guys believed that he was as talented as Sachin but because of so many reasons he failed.. so say he could not handle the wealth and fame , some said he used to dance and drink till 2 AM even when their was a test or a One day international next day...oooh i Pity how can one destroy such talent.. i saw him play well myself and possibly he was a better batsman than dravid and ganguly if not Sachin . 2. Salil Ankola: the Huge Mumbai Pacemen who failed when he was declared as the fastest and the most promising by some big cricket Guru's and specially after a promising start when he took 3 or 4 wicekts in his first test Match. 3. Atul Bedade: the big 6 hitter who many said will definitely make a big Mark at least in One days if not in tests and was a much bigger hitter than Yuvraj and Yusuf. 4.I would not call Irfan Pathan as a big failure as He could atleast make his mark and played for quite many One day internationals and tests, taking a hat trick as well though he has also not managed to be true to his talents or potential. but he has partially suceeded at least. 5. Murli Karthik : I feel He has also not suceeded and One point which i have noted is that he is one of the best spinners that we have but he does not manage to play much , he should have played a few tests at least, he has played a few one days and do note that his record is OK. 6. VRV Singh: he has been as big a failure as his height. he could bowl fast bouncers and many said that he is the best among Munaf Sreesanth and him as he has the best bouncer and good yorkers....but possibly bcos of his health he has been a huge disappointment..some said players used to be scared of him. 7. I would also add MUNAF into this list as I feel i would wanna award him GOLD prize for slowing down his pace at such a fast speed, he bowled 145 K consistently in his first test match against England and after that he straight jumped to 130 to 133 in six months and then 125 to 130 in next six months and later 12ok to 125 K and today he bowls at the pace of 115k to 120 K...I feel now he will slow down to 110 to 115 K and later He will turn into a Spin Bowler.. i wanna suggest that He should retire from Indian Cricket if he cannot go back to his best days.. i still feel he has the capability to go back to 140 to 145K but he withholds and underperforms...he is a BIG Failure. 8.Raju Kulkarni: I still dont understand that when there was a guy who bowled fast n furious , he could not suceed though i do not know why? 9. Vivek razdan: a fast bowler gets a fifer in his debut match that clearly says he has talent.. where did he go. Good smooth action great height Good Pace.. how could He fail. 10.Laxmipathy Bala Ji : his pace deteriorated fast bcos of his health n fitness issues n now he is slower than Praveen Kumar. you guys do add and also comment, dont u guys agree that these guys were crazy talents who failed but should have suceeded? Had i got similiar talent I am sure I would have worked Hard and serve the country longer... I Love Cricket...Vishal

In terms of big cricketing talents only Kambli was the big cricketing talent who went on a path of self-destruction. He did not fail initially and scored a lot better than Sachin to be frank. He only followed the path of destruction later on. Out of the rest in the list I would say almost all the others were mediocre/good players and not the BIG cricketing talents.

Ramesh, Balaji, Badrinath, L.Siva, V.B.Chandrashekar, Sharath, T.A.Sekar, M.Kartik(he represented Railways though). I havent seen some of them play- just named them based on what I've heard and whats been written.

I wont hold the lack of footwork against him. These days more and more batsmen are technically imperfect but still score runs. Sehwag leads the lot. He connected his shots and thats what mattered.
