But you have to take into account that Kumble had SL and AUSSIE tour at the start of his captaincy' date='probably most difficult overseas tour[/quote'] Yes Of course AUS tour that had Cheaters playing against Us, and SL with Murali , Vaas and an Unknown Mendis in it. Still Kumble won one Test match in SL exactly what Dhoni did.

Has MSD even won a Match in Eng and AUS? Leave alone a series Draw. And the 'AUS' We are talking about here was the Worlds Best' date= Currently we are the Best and we can compare Performance in SA only to that n AUS.
no becoz hasnt played any :--D

You dont read all the Posts do You?
Dhoni has the Makings of the Most 'Successful Captain" . Greatest Captain of India too' date=' But for that he needs to prove himself playing against the Top 3-4 Sides away from Home and Home. He has done Better at Home than the Past Captains, Now needs to be seen how he fares against them away. The Past Captains have proved themselves both Home and Away, and i do not agree with the fact who calls Dhoni Lucky, Just because without Luck you cant even score a Ton, Luck is needed everywhere. I'll take Luck anyday for the sake of Results.

I have already made the above Post on the Topic, He is talking as if Dhoni have played already over there By comparing him to SCG.

You have to be a great captain to have such kind of a record when he difference between international sides is not that huge.

I wont talk 'Luck '***' etc I think If you are Lucky you are benifitting the nation and I'll Take it, Most of Ponting's team's dominance has been because of his Luck with the toss in ODI's . I'll take luck anyday because at the end of the day the results matter.

IMHO w/l ratio is hardly a yardstick of good captain. Going by w/l ratio, :punter: is way ahead of Taylor & Border. Don't think many consider him ahead of these two. Similarly, drawing one of the most dominant Aussie sides ever, beating Pak in pak etc with a team in rebuilding phase is nothing short of phenominal. The real challenge for Dhoni will be when the greats retire, IMO. Forget all that, we're yet to play in Aus, SA, and England under him. Then we'll compare him with Gangs, Dravid, etc.

I agree that he had to captain india in SL\Aust which are supposedly hard tours, but he didnt manage to win much at home also.

Well wins abroad will Make him the Most Sucesful Captain surely, But 'Greatest' Indian Captain will always be debatable as we'll be comparing him against Different eras.

Nobody saying that. But you want to compare how others did with the same team.
Had a 3 match series vs Pak which we won 1-0 and drew 1-1 against SA. The rest were all away series.

One of the main reasons is that he didn't have the service of Zak back then IIRC (so we couldn't win more matches on flat tracks against Pakis). Had a 3 match series vs Pak which we won 1-0 and drew 1-1 against SA. The rest were all away series.
Zak played 2 out of 3 test matches against Pak

Ok..thanks for that. So its all coming down to what dhoni can achieve in indias next 3 upcoming tours (SA, Eng and Aus(?) )

Sorry for that, Zak did indeed play the series, my bad  And yes, SA, Eng specially would be 2 of the most crucial series, IMO. Aus series shouldn't be hard that hard looking the way things are heading :giggle: That would make him worthy of comparing to the achievement of gangs and dravid. As I said, how he'll perform with a team in rebuilding phase when the greats retire will determine his true greatness as a captain.
