Jumping into the discussion but you have got your facts wrong' date=' Ganguly was dropped for 2nd test and then again came back in the 3rd test :--D[/quote'] I meant to say he played in 2 tests in Pakistan.

I meant to say he played in 2 tests in Pakistan.
Yes he did, but was in and out of the side regularly. The test side i mean.

Again' date=' you're wrong. He played in the 2nd test in Pakistan as well. You can have your own opinions as to what happened, but at least get your FACTS right.[/quote'] By the 3rd test i meant oppurtunity with the bat.

It was known that S.Ganguly came back due to off-field influence/politics. Not sure what Andy wants to defend about that :dontknow:
WTF you are talking about? No way am defending its just that i dont believe allegations based on self assumptions. I clearly said he 'may' have done that, But my point was He did perform at the domestic level to prove his form and Fitness, You ignored that "may be" Because of your Pet hate is subject of the argument here. First care to read all the posts rather than jumping on conclusions , then we'll Talk.

Ganguly came back in the 2006 Pak series after meeting Sharad Pawar, got dropped after that series, was neither picked for the Eng test series in India in 2006 nor for the WI tour in 2006 (even when Sachin was injured). He went to county cricket, had scores of 2, 0, 9, 6, 2, 5 and then in the 2006-07 domestic season scores of 118, 16, 31, 6, 43. Then we went to SA (in between we lost a number of ODI series including Champions Trophy), lost the 2nd ODI miserably (got shot for 91 runs), then lost the 3rd ODI as well, the parliament was in its winter session then. The left parties which were propping up the UPA government made a lot of hue and cry about the "shameful loss". The then Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chateerjee openly demanded inclusion of Dada in the Indin team in the parliament. The whole of Bengal was obviously on a boil. Sharad Pawar then made a statement in the parliament that he will personally ensure some senior players get picked for the rest of the matches and Vengsarkar was asked to go to SA immediately to let the players know how the countryment felt as they lost heavily. For the first time in Indian cricket's history, the selection committe meeting was held at the house of the BCCI president in Delhi (originally they were scheduled to meet in Mumbai) . VVS and Kumble were then sent to SA for the ODIs and Ganguly picked for the test. Now if you don't believe this and still say "may be" thats living in denial. However what Dada did after a comeback is legendary and hence the circumstances in which he came back to the team becomes a little irrelevant!

Thank You for that story, wasnt much aware of that. But never i denied, I said 'May Be' because i had no idea about it, neither anyone explained the sequences properly. And am not at all interested in Talking about Politics, its just not my thing. On CT my point was after he was dropped from the ODI's first He did score runs in the domestic cricket. And one more thing i would like to know, If Ganguly had such Political Influences why didnt he use it when he was dropped from ODIs again?

Two factors, t20 WC win and CB series win. But for those two, he would have comeback in the ODIs as well. The nation was clamouring for younger players after those wins and like true politicans, CPI (M) remained quite going with the mood in the country. Also the fact that Dravid too got the sack along with him perhaps made him see some reason.

What a brave decision it was, mark of a champion captain that dhoni was from the beginning, in the midst of 4th test with bhajji -symonds controversy still afresh.

Ganguly and Dravid was not Fitting the Bill That time. Though i believe Dravid has a place in the ODI side still if he gets his form right. And how did Dhoni had a say in Eventual Retirement? That wasnt a Mark of Champion IMO, Ganguly can still walk into the NO 6 spot in tests given the form he was in.

Considering the uproar and politics on gangulis earlier ouster, considering the controversies surrounding tht aust. tour, to axe ganguly was a brave decision. hence mark of a champion captain who doesnt buckle under pressure. ofcourse the decision was only based on cricketing merits. And do you feel if gangs was still playing the ODIs , he would have retired from tests? I think no. maybe he would have had a crack at another WC.

How can he make Ganguly Retire when he was not the captain of the Test side himself.:dontknow: I dont think Ganguly should have been the part of ODI side ever since we had Gambhir and Sehwag back and Goddy in full flow. Test matches we still dont have a NO 6, Hence he can walk into the side.

At that time, india wanted to try yuvraj at 6. He had a fair run at 6 after ganguly retired. So, it was a timely decision by ganguly to retire . Otherwise he would have been dropped from test side,.

Dropped from Test side for Yuvraj?:hysterical: You still havent said how it was Dhoni's decision? He announced retiremnt before the AUS series, Kumble was captain then and was expected to play another year atleast (Kumble).

ganguly was averaging 35 in 13 tests in 2008: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/28779.html?class=1;template=results;type=batting;view=innings;year=2008 And yuvi was pretty hot in ODIs those days. So yeah, gangs could have been dropped fr yuvi had he not retired. you just cant resist yourself from using those retarded smileys can you.--

You can bring in Retarded logics as much as you want, 2008 stats you are Providing had the Horror series of Sri Lanka, where everyone Failed. He "won" us a Test against SA that year. Am am not mentioning his other performances as yet, Apart from the SL series where everyone failed he was one of our most Consistent Batters in the Middle during that time. He was consistent even in AUS, though he didnt got any big score there. You better bring in all his stats since his come Back. Its not even 12 months stats you have concluded. And Given what Yuvraj done in 2008 he hardly would have got any chances had Ganguly not retired. Dropping Ganguly for Yuvraj? Not even close.

and has'nt made much of an impact. Since Ganguly retired, Yuvraj has played 11 tests and made 589 runs at 42.07 and not a siingle century.

Looking at his form when he retired, he certainly could have played for some more time but he went when he was on top of his game:hatsoff:

He will tell you sooner than Later How Dhoni is the most Indispensable Player of the Team be it in Tests and ODIs , he doesnt even consider Goddy Indispensable. And i would still like to know from him how Dhoni triggered Gangu's retirement, when he was not the Captain himself. Next thing he may claim Dhoni triggered Kumble's retiremnt too as he is a Better captain. :giggle:
