thongale Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 :haha: It still sounds humorous! wow that must have hurt real bad...how long until u were able to walk upright?Well I said I've been a gritty customer. Quick check whether the blow has misaligned the jewels, and within three or four minutes I started batting again. Never used to give an inch to the bowler even when it comes to hit on the crotch. Even own-team members got the same treatment from me. The bowler (A guy from Jaffna), asked "are they still aligned?". Furious by a junior commenting like that I said "At least I have them to get mis aligned than you ****ers with a small gadgets!" :--D That was high drama. Later he came and apologized for the bad comment given at that time. This is only at practice! I was one of the worst sledgers at division 2 level cricket in SL. But the pain didn't leave me for few days. It was fortunate to be a Medical Student by then, a quick ultra sound scan showed no major problems other than a small hematoma.
Jersey #10 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Anyone here bat without a 'family jewels guard'..against a proper red cherry I always end up forgetting to take it from home.. Once I got hit on my right thigh while it barely touched the jewel and it still hurt like crazy. I can imagine getting hurt straight up without wearing one. It will hurt even if you are wearing the abdominal guard. I am not sure why these cricket authorities are not calling for more technological and safe guards for down there
Shane Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I bat like Tendulkar' date=' bowl like Swann, and field like Dwayne Leverock.[/quote'] :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
The Dark Horse Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Nice replies:two_thumbs_up: I am the king of the ring(batting) in box cricket(played within a limited area :giggle:) Also bowl a bit of medium pace, that too only gully cricket with tennis/rubber ball.

Pak_Forever Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Pace, pace and pace and nothing else. Bowling fast is my passion. Scaring the hek out of opponents batsmen is very satisfying. Never try to injure them but a few good bouncers and frustration and fear are visible through the helmet, which is very satisfying. I maybe a mid-high 70s bowler, but for me its 90mph. :--D My fielding is pretty decent. Rarely let anything go, but have dropped some dollies. My batting is a slogathon. I have never defended in my life as I royally suck at it. You see, you swing type of a batsman, no wonder I have never batted above # 10-11 position.

Nirvanam Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 The references to gully cricket and tennis/rubber ball reminded me... anyone here who played in those 12/16 overs Day/Night tournaments held around Mumbai and Pune? The tournament is played with MRI ball (it's a Tennis ball made for cricket). It's the original T20...T12 or S16...big cash prizes - they would go upto Rs 2,3 lacs back in 95-96. Lotsa Ranji players from Pune would play in these tournaments. Of course the skills needed are pretty different than the skills needed with leather ball. In these games there was no concept of a spinner - spinner was a redundancy. Theme was to bowl as fast as possible and slog as hard as possible. In Pune normally the tournaments would happen in the outskirts areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad...some even in Lonavala. Anyone aware of these?
Late Cut Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 You mean the 'cricket grade' tennis balls or the lighter ones... When I was in school..the lighter ones were a nighmare to be facing as a batter..a slight wind would create the banana swing.. The lighter ones. I once was asked to play pick up cricket with a buch of local guys using a tennis ball (the last time i played with a tennis ball must have been when i was 8); i was absolutely horrendous- i could not time any shots and got out for 1 and even my clean hits had no carry what so ever (the same bat i used in league matches- my 3 lb county clipper cricket bat...it was an awesome bat).

I can handle the fastest bowlers in my league with ease and they are about 80-85mph fast. I can probably bowl faster than 70mph and I am only a first change bowler.

Yeah dude, it's like having to drive a Maruti 800 after driving a Honda Accord. Once you start playing with a leather ball, it gets quite difficult to pick up the variations of other lower quality balls.
VRV Singh Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I am the fastest bowler in India...unfairly discarded by selectors but I will be back
Dravid Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 right hand opener.. got 2 both of games, can block and can go 20-20 on your ass:--D bowling, right arm phast.. but inconsistent line and lenght.. working on that

punjabi_khota Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Medium pace bowler who mostly got wickets due to bounce (or sending a one off yorker-ish ball after bouncers). Natural delivery was inswinger/cutter..never could bowl outswing in my ****ing life. #6-7 batsman according to how *****y the team I was playing for, mostly leg-side player :P Decent close in fielder, not afraid to dive. Use to bowl leg-spin long time ago, :icflove: those were the days

Jersey #10 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 While we are at it, I want to mention my best game as a bowler ever. TBH, it's so much more satisfying when you win a game for the team as a bowler than as a batsman. So I was being played as a first change bowler and the opening batsman as always. The opposite team was ranked in top 3 on the tables and they had got 66 runs in just first 8 overs for zero wickets. I came in for the 9th over, which went for about 7 or 8 runs. I was not repeated for the 11th over which got me pissed. Then I was brought back into attack for the 14th over. This over, I started slapping the batsman with one bouncer after another. I was taking the longest run up I could. Fortunately, the pitch was very solid and every ball was going like a tracer bullet. I bowled two no balls for height and finished the over for those two runs and no wickets. I was very excited with the kind of support I was getting from the track. In the sixteenth over, I bowled a bouncer and then followed it by another bouncer. Third ball was a yorker which went straight into the off and middle stump. The next two balls went without a run and then for the last ball I caught and bowled their opener who's score was in high 40s. I picked up three more wickets in that spell of 6 overs. I was then brought back into the attack for the 31th over. I picked up two more wickets in the spell of 3 overs. I ended up with my best figures ever with 21 runs and 7 wickets. The opponents ended their innings with 146/10. This was about two years ago. I have never bowled better than I did that day. I made about 28 runs while opening later in the game. We won the game in just 29 overs. btw, my bowling action is a little like our Zakie boi! He was always my favorite bowler hence I would just run around and repeat his action over and over again for fun at a very young age. I never intended to be a bowler but his action is so beautiful that you can just hold a ball in your hand and copy his action to become a bowler. My best score while batting is 102 which I made while playing for my school team in Toronto, Canada. My second and third best scores are 88 and 76. I average a little less than 25, which is decent at the level I play at. Please share your experiences.
