achilles Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I voted for YKP evetthough he played a blinder is bcoz he is a tullaabaaz and should nowhere be in an international side...He is in the Alistair Brown' date=Afridi mould...will come off once in a blue moon. That would be Vijay. 1 IPL 100 and he was the next big thing of India's One Day set up apparently. Thankfully, Parthiv has happened again and the opening slots seem packed.
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 RE: Your boy, Rahul Dravid Obviously from the emotional responses here, it's apparent that Rahul Dravid has a lot of family members on this forum....lol! You guys need examples of ur boy, Rahul Dravid being selfish? (and may I add, generally not a very nice person). How many days you guys have? 1. In New Zealand last test series (2009) when Sehwag batted in the 2nd innings of 2nd test, he got out trying to hit Jeetan Patel for a boundary (may I add the same approach he used to set up a win in Chennai a few months earlier in the 4th innings against Swann and Panesar on turning tracks.........the same match that Dravid contributed nothing to- IN BOTH INNINGS). At the end of the test when Dravid and Gambhir together saved the match, you know what Dravid said to the media? "It's no good being a player who blasts it all over the place and when it comes to saving a match, not being able to play sensibly and bat time". This dig came on the back of Viru's golden run and Dravid was obviously jealous because the attention was now off him. Cricketnirvana.com even wrote an article saying that if Dravid believed that was the case then why can he not up his slow scoring rate when the team needs to press on and win matches instead of handing initiative back to the opposition. After the same test match, Viru proclaimed gambhir as the "second wall of india"- maybe Dravid was jealous because he wanted to be the only wall- im not sure! All I can say is which vindictive, unprofessional idiot would make a comment about a colleagues backing like that! I now know why Dravid and Gregg Chappel got on.....because they both love belittling colleagues publicly to the media! 2. It is common courtesy as batsmen to walk off with you partner at the end of the day, even when it is with a tailender.........i've seen Sachin and Viru etc purposely wait for their tailenders and walk off together to give them confidence and respect. India vs Aus 2010 1st test, Mohali, Ishant was a nightwatchman, and he wanted to walk off with Dravid and Dravid completely ignored him and carried on walking to the pavillion and didnt want to be seen with him. Also Ishant performed well and scored 18 and didnt lose his wicket- excellent work from a nightwatchmen wouldnt you say? Not according to Dravid, all through out his innings he didnt even care to give any encouragement or support to Ishant and didnt congratulate him when he scored runs or played well. Please contrast this behaviour to how Sachin bats with nightwatchmen and how he makes the point of walking off with them. 3. Do I need to mention Dravid declaring when Sachin was on 196*? I bet u there will still be some idiots on this forum who will still try to defend this. 4. Champions Trophy 2009, Wanderers Joburg, India vs Pak odi- chasing 300+, Gambhir pummels the pak attack to all corners, even pins the mighty umar gul into submission in one devastating over and he gets 50 off approx 36 balls, what does Dravid do? He call for a run, then at the time when Gambhir has no chance of getting back, Dravid sends him back. This selfish, slow scoring suck up thought that he was more important to the team chasing three hundred then gambhir who was blasting everyone to all parts. This could only be an ego driven decision as it was dravids slow scoring throughout the match which put pressure on other batsmen and cost us losing that game. 5. 1st test vs NZ, 2010, Ahemdabad- in 3rd innings when india need to score QUICKLY to put pressure on nz in first innings, dravid calls sehwag for a run, when he realises he wont make it he sends Sehwag back as the sacrificial lamb to slaughter and this precipitated india's collapse and we needed bhaji and vvs to save the test for us. So what now, did Dravid think he was better placed to score quickly and set up a quickly lead for india to bowl new zealand out on than Sehwag? p.s. if your wondering why running someone out is a selfish act, as dravid did in these last two examples.......let me define what dravid did: he called them out for a run whilst he was batting so that he could score one run, when he saw the fielder and saw he would have got run out, he then send the non stiker back (i.e. sehwag and gambhir) to lose their wickets 6. India vs Australia, 2nd test Bangalore at the end of the game Sachin and Dravid were walking off together and someone who obviously works at the ground and is not very rich ran up to Sachin and Dravid to shake bother their hands...... Sachin's response- he swaps his bat from right hand to left hand which is hard to do because he's carrying his gloves also and shakes the guys hand and makes him happy. Dravid's response- at first he tries to ignore him and then when he has no choice he begrudgingly shakes his hand and makes out that like it is such a waste of his time for him to shake the hand of an average man. 7. IPL1- Dravid's response to his lesser ability in the t20 format......"if i had started playing this game when i was younger id be smashing this game. All i can say is what an arrogant, ego driven response to basically being crap something. When sachin and vvs didnt perform well in t20 (IMO better players than dravid), i didnt hear any such petty excuses from them. there are more examples but im getting bored now.....ps you cant argue with the above as its based on observation and facts- if you disagree with it the i suggest you role the footage of these matches and see for yourself!!!! why does everyone here think dravid is a nice person- because he trains hard, because he scores slowly, because he is educated and speaks good english and is soft spoken, because he doesnt go clubbing????? well all of these are commendable attributes to possess but it doesnt make you an unselfish person! maybe he doesnt go clubbing because he lacks confidence? maybe he's soft spoken because he's a coward? i personally dont know. But what i do want to know is before all you wise guys on this forum defended Dravid, what were your eyes doing when all this was happening on front of you on tv? Did you just happen to conveniently close them at these exact points! Or do you just not watch enough cricket to see these things. personally i watch entire test matches, all five days so i think im the best placed out of most ppl on this forum to comment on any indian players nature.
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 :hysterical::hysterical: We need to have an IQ test before giving ICF membership! yes couldn't agree more! it would have spared us having members like you on this forum.
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.... His style of play is quite different from other batsmen and at times it seems he's just holding up the spot for his runs but no way you can't call him selfish...that's preposterous.... This guy has given a lot of Indian cricket... it's an insult to the legend to call him selfish.... where did you grow up watching cricket? you can't be a true Indian cricket fan. i cant be a true indian cricket fan? im born and bread in england, grew up with white ppl, went to school with white ppl and yet i always supported india (and pakistan). everyone in my school supported england and i used to be only indian and i used to have daily arguements/fights defending india and its cricket's honour. remember the flintoff ganguly shirt incident? when i was a teenager i had a bust up in my school over that with all the goras.....which is a lot more than i can say for most other indians......who try to listen to western music (hence western music is played at our ipl matches), watch western films, and do everything they can to act as western as possible because they have and inferiority complex with white ppl. i bunk university and mess up my sleeping clock to get up 3.30am in the morning to watch tests/odis......if im not an indian cricket fan...who is? just because between 2001 and 2005 Dravid was our most consistent player and probably one of the top three players in the world during that time- it doesnt make him unselfish. the question was least likeable indian player, not worst indian player! ps jadeja would be a front runner for both polls.
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 He hides it SO well that only YOU can see it. :hysterical: thanks alot for praising my superior observational skills! many thanks.
Andy Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 There was a similar thread and my answer was SRT and from the Ex cricketers SCG.
DomainK Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 It's very unfortunate to see such threads and such posts on ICF. Alas, how I miss the old days.

After reading your post, I guess everyone would agree that you are a true indian fan in truest sense of the word. But got to say, Dravid has been one of the most unselfish players there ever has been. From taking wicket keeping burden, to batting at various positions in the batting order(even opening), to relinquishing the captaincy, to declaring the innings when sachin was at 192 not out(shows his own unselfish intent too) there have been several examples. I could say for sure that if in future he feels he has become a liability in the team, he'd be the first to put his hand up and acknowledge. You could bash dravid for slow, maybe unattractive batting, bad running, bad groundfielding etc but couldn't say that he's a selfish playa

Andy Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Rahul Dravid Selfish. SRT plays for Records, Sourav Ganguly Politician. :hatsoff: To "Indian" Cricket Fans.
dhillon28 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 wow! what a post - you seem to have some serious problems with one of the most unselfish players in world cricket. no you have some serious problems with honesty within yourself by calling him unselfish after reading my post! at least the person who posted above you had the decency to post some evidence to back up what he said. you obviously belong to the "im gonna say something becos i feel like it" school of thought which has a high population in india so ull be in good company. evidence based arguements please rather than pure opinion if you want to be taken at least slightly seriously in future.

I think one session had ended and he didnt intend to waste more time in batting, and didnt think abt (sachin's) personal scores ,I think he would have done the same thing had he himeslf been batting. Agree with you on captaincy. Maybe nothing unselfish abt that. Regarding fielding, you got to look in the right perspective. Guess the majority of players lift their fielding standards in T20 coz you got to be on the field for 90 mins only and margins of win \loss is narrow in t20.

Guess the majority of players lift their fielding standards in T20 coz you got to be on the field for 90 mins only and margins of win loss is narrow in t20. about the decleration part- thats cool, there is nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree as long as we both have valid/logical reasons about fielding in t20 compared to tests- yes you are 100% right many ppl do lift their fielding game for t20, but test are all about building pressure, the great aussies sides bowling had that much more bite because of their tireless work in field as opposed to indians lazy fielding. so i think fielding is just as important in tests and i may argue more important becos tests are higher stakes cricket! i think ppl lift their fielding for t20 becos there is more instant gratification/embarrassment and becos ipl is franchise based and is all about money! but i must say dravid is not alone in this regard! ganguly fields excellently in ipl- watch next time he plays. ive seen him do jonty rhodes type fielding at times! where as sachin/raina and a few others who pride themselves on fielding try equally hard in tests and t20 may i add viru is equally bad in tests and t20 at fielding which also shows he s unselfish...lol
rahulrulezz Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I have huge list of players who I hate to seee in ODI and T20 team Rohit Sharma-- A typical 90s player who wud come at 2 down, take 25-30 balls to make 6-7 runs, screw the runrate and get out... He is one of those who wen hits 4, makes sure to play next 5 dot balls..Somewhere before T2010 Wordcup, he changed his attitude and started playing agressive cricket but he went back to his Dravidsique style of batting M.Vijay-- Most overhyped ODI player... The biggest reason for our loss in Zimbabwe.. The guy pmade sure to screw up our run rate in first 15 PP overs in EVERY Zimbabwe match... A hopeless case and I hope our selectors realize the guy is not a ODI and T20 player Harbhajan- Mind you, he is a good ODI and T20 player but he is a patheic Test bowler... even in ODIs and T20, he is just good at best... but you are playing for India with a population of over billion people so we deserve someone more than good... and first time in last 10 years, I can finally some one spinner R. Ashwin who comes across as a match winner in T20s and ODIs... No hate for Bhajji, but he is just excellent which we deserve for a rank 1 Indian team A.Nehra-- Just dont think he is more than good.. jus OK and we deserve a better bowler... D.Karthik.. I used to hate him but later i realized he is actually not bad... palys with his heart on the sleeves but I think we rather have Uthappa as our backup player Dravid.. Just hated him in ODI team.. played so many selfish innings in ODIs Kaif... He wud be on TOP of my list along with Jadeja.... Just hated this moron... played 170 matches coming at 5 down with a strike rate of low 70s and hite grand number of 9 sixes in his whole career even though coming down the order u r supposed to accelerate
vaibhav_delhi Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 its upto each player to strike the right balance. You dont want to be diving arnd too much or trying too hard on the field for days possibly and not conserve energy for batting and bowling and also risking an injury. I'd say in test matches catching is much more important than ground fielding than in ODIs,T20s.
achilles Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Rahul Dravid = Selfish? Here is an anecdote- During an IPL game (please note, IPL game), this man walked up to Virat/Robin/Manish and told him to score his 50 and hang in till the end with him, while batting. The next ball, the lad got out. Rahul Dravid, at the other end, turned around in absolute disgust and banged his bat on the ground. And no, it wasn't he who got out. He was aghast that the guy missed a deserved 50. While Dravid was full of disappointment, the batsman walked off without much emotions. Seemed to the commies that Dravid was feeling worse than the person who got out. And he is selfish!?! Well yes he is, for he always wants his teammates to do well, be it international cricket or even IPL.
maniac Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 Rahul Dravid along with SRT ,SCG,VVS and Anil have build this team from scratch to what it is today, the benefits of which someone like Dhoni and to some extent Sehwag,Bhajji,Zak and Gambhir are reaping. The aftermentioned could have easily thrown it away if they didn't have the calmness and skills of these legends. This is a fact.
maniac Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 The people I have mentioned in the list do not give the impression that they have the perseverance, patience, dedication of SRT,Ganguly,Dravid,Anil and VVS. I didn't have Sehwag,Gambhir or Zak in the list bcoz these guys have shown determination and commitment and are on the way to become the next set of legends. I personally have nothing against Dhoni but what irritates me is he gets more credit than he deserves. He was handled a well-oiled machine rather than a team in crisis.Even though he is doing a good job so far,his backing of players who are his personal favouraites doesn't sit well in the eyes of many fans.
