Dhoni walking for LBW - Is this a first?

Is this the first a batsman in Intl cricket (say recent history 10 years) has walked for a LBW? I know batsmen walk for catches, runouts etc...but LBW? The walkers If Morkel has any doubts about whether the decision that gave him his five-for was the correct one, they must have been immediately erased by Dhoni's reaction. Without waiting to see if umpire Ian Gould thought that the ball would go on to hit the stumps, the India captain started the trudge back. South Africa had a walker of their own. Alviro Petersen showed no hesitation in getting off the park after he inside-edged Harbhajan Singh onto his pad, popping a catch to forward short-leg.

Would be an understatement to say it was a saintly act from Dhoni :cantstop: ..wasn't even a plumb LBW. What was the need to walk? :dontknow:

yeah, Dhoni is a fool to do this. I can sometimes understand people walking on catches but for LBWs :omg:

These things are hardly concious decisions. He might resist the same urge to walk now that he would remember this instance.

Won't be the first instance I believe. It would have mostly happend if a player would have played a shot on backfoot As plumb as imagine someone playing a shot on backfoot on Kumble's bowling and gets hit on the pad rite straight

don't see the big deal. like ticz said, if you are caught on the back foot, ball clearly trapping you, it is same as walking for a catch. yes, if you had doubts about height, about where you were when ball trapped you etc, ok it is different from other outs, if not what's the big diff?

The sad part is that he walked before the umpire could even think about giving him out or not :winky: that must've confused the umpire too

Actually Dhoni is a very smart fellow..usne umpire ke saath game khela hai. He knows its a hopeless situation and that even if he was given not out, Unadkat will get out next over. So by walking he has given the Ump the impression that he is a decent, honest, LBW walker. Next time in more tense and crucial situation when he is plumb he will not walk...umpire will fall for the deception and give him not-out :--D

Muralitharan to Dhoni, OUT, Dhoni walks for a lbw. It was that plumb. Fab delivery. Landed on the middle stump line and hurried on straight - a stunning toppie, Dhoni had backed to cut and he had no place to hide. Tried to get his bat down in a hurry but the ball rushes on and rams the pad. Dead duck. What a bowler!

Agree Rahul's take on Dhoni was a lil OTT. But anyway this whole thread seems a lil OTT coz we are making too much of this incident. Some ppl walk when they believe they are out...nothing wrong in that. It dunn make them a saint but let's not make them sinners...we ain't the OZ whose team mates make Gilly a sinner.
