We just have to try and not get out. Of course can hit bad balls as well but if block the odd half volley then thats fine by me! No criticism of Dravid is allowed if he has strike rate of 20 up to tea tommorow. So please mods any 2020 ideoligies infiltrating the test match thread tommorow should be met with swift and firm action by mods!

Dravid is looking good only because he's playing positively. Tendulkar looked awesome in the 1st dig for similar reasons. I hope he continues this way and doesn't turn into the sydney waala 241 sachin. That is categorically _not_ the way to play a team that is as reliant on their 'plans' as SA is. Rotating the strike is key, even if we don't get boundaries. The argument that, because of their giant lead, SA will not worry about runs scored against them is patently false. Smith has already shown himself (in India's first 180 runs, and many times previously) to be a Dhoni-esque reactionary 'modern' captain with the imagination of an adolescent chipmunk. Given this, a batsman can make him move fielders to the boundary with a couple of scoring shots. If however, we shut up shop and allow the South Africans to have their will with us, we will see a lot more of the short-short-short-full (lbw) treatment. Case in point -- hey Raina, don't like the ball in the ribcage with a leg-slip waiting to devour you? ****en move around in your crease and smash Morkel a few times, and watch the field scatter. I still think SA may be a mentally fragile unit that rely heavily on their chalkboard strategies. Even if we don't draw this game, we need to expose this frailty. (also, hi guys! glad to see there is still a place for eternal optimists around here)

IMO the first hour will be crucial, if we can safely negotiate it then I think we will do well on day 4. Also, while I agree with you that we need a Bhajji in our mindset, I think we would also need someone like Dravid-the wall to keep one end safe while other batsmen can play their shots because if we have to draw this match, we've got to play atleast 120-130 overs over the next 2 days.

We may lose but thats fine as long as we play positive..Seeing how dravid played his shots its clear message that we are not going to shut the shop. SA have Steyn and Morkel and they will bowl 4 spells each entire day...Thats where we need to focus more
