Can you tell Sehwag to play sensibly?

Once again we see in the second India triumphantly marching along. Scoring at 5 runs per over. Then Sehwag played a stupid shot and rest of the side collapse. Is the solution: 1. To ask Sehwag to play sensibly knowing that you may destroy that which makes him so so special ala Greg Chappell. 2. ???????. Every side now knows if you stop Sehwag in Tests you stop India. In the rare instances where the rest of the side bats well as in the Australian series, this glaring weakness is masked. Otherwise the entire side comes down to one man. For me this test was defined by two key moments. Firstly Sehwag playing a stupid shot in the 1st innings then Sehwag playing a stupid shot in the second innings.

We cant blame him, hez done enough in tests, and is doing enough. Again in this test, he reduced SA's lead in a very short time, improving chances of drawing

With the way he plays, most of his shots are breathtaking when he pulls them off which he does quite often. When however he gets out, it looks equally ugly. But thats Sehwag. He plays in an outrageous way. When he succeeds, we are jubilant and when he does not, such threads are opened. Besides, I dont think any sane team in the world thinks that once Sehwag is gone, India is finished. Just because it has happened in this match, it's not the norm.

For the OP - people like you have been saying things like this after each and every innings where Viru does not make runs and everytime the man has come back and made centuries, double centuries and triple centuries while batting in the same manner - so don't criticize him for playing such shots.

It is very frustrating to see Sehwag just throw away his wicket. It is tough to watch that (him gifting away) - but its what Sehwag seems to be - he'll give joy while he is there, and he leaves us scratching our head like WTF when he gets out. I do hope someone can influence him a bit to play a bit more sensibly. Not a whole lot - he still needs to be Sehwag - just a "tad bit more" sensibly perhaps would not hurt though :D Having said that - While statistically we can never find out - I'm curious to know what % of Sehwag's test match dismissals are forced errors vs unforced errors. (I think in ODIs he'll have even more number of unforced dismissals, but then thats ODIs)

Exactly. If I have to chose between the Sehwag as he is and and a sensible Sehwag, I would chose the Sehwag as he is. If he pays sensible, his whole batting style will be toned down and he will be reduced to a very ordinary batsmen. As he is, I think he is the most sensible of all the fast scoring batsmen in the world.

++ compared to this eras exposive batsmen, eg. gayle, dilshan , afridi, gibbs, sanath, and even gilchrist, sehwag is miles ahead, and is much more sensible.

I would love to see how Viru adjusts after the trio of Sachin, Dravid and Laxman have retired and he becomes the mainstay of the team. A sof now he has te license because of the strong middle order. I have seen many great bowlers/batsmen like Akhtar, Lee, Ponting detoriate after they had the responsibilty of spearheading the batting/bowling Will Viru be able to bat as fluently knowing that there are the likes of Rohit and Raina to follow him?

When all his seniors are gone, it will bring an inevitable change in Sehwag. It will be interesting to see what kind of change that will be. I have a feeling that bowlers world wide have a terrible time coming.
