Sachin=GOD Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Its quite amusing to see how some people, in order to prove that Laxman is the greatest Indian player under pressure, have very conveniently chosen to completely forget the 1990s where the entire Indian batting lineup revolved around one man - be it 2nd innings or 1st, Tests or ODIs, home or away, if that one man failed then more often than not the team also failed - talk about batting under pressure!!
Shane Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Man' date=' that pot-smoking golti lone fan of laxman would be trippin' :icflove:[/quote'] :hysterical:
akshayxyz Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 This is pointless claim and hence pointless discussion. Even then, if one wants to calculate out this ultimate pressure man. Then first unanimously define pressure, - various kinds, situations etc.. and then one can go look at the past performances for the best match. Just based on few performances from the top of the memory - is amateurish and is not gong to lead anywhere.
CSK Fan Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 we have a million threads on how good Tendulkar has been ' date=' why is it difficult to come out and admit that VVS is miles ahead of any other batsmen when it comes to playing under pressure ?[/quote'] Because this thread is not about how good VVS is. Its a needless comparison between VVS and Sachin. As for you, you will support Bhajji's batting against Sachin
sudheer kumar Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Because this thread is not about how good VVS is. Its a needless comparison between VVS and Sachin. Exactly ........... There is no need of this comparison
vaibhav_delhi Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 100 against lanka on the final day to level the series. 9th wkt match winning partnership with ishant against the aussies in mohali. Match saving 7th wkt partnership with bhajji against kiwis in the 1st test. 96in the last test agaisnt SA. These are laxmans 4 match winner/saving contributions in the last 7 test matches. Got to be the best clutch player in the world currently. I have been saying this frm day one.

zen Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 47 votes to VVS, 11 to SRT Btw, I see that some folks are complaining (as usual) about a comparison where SRT doesn't quite measure up. But rest assured that when Tendulkar hits a 100, some of them would be the first ones to take a dig at other players and try to show how he is the greatest :hysterical:

vaibhav_delhi Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 When I think of sachin's best test innings, unfortunately i think of that chennai 100 where he couldnt take india across the line against pakistan.

zen Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Appears as if some folks think that the 100 Sachin hit at Centurian where Sehwag (63), GG (80) and Dhoni (90) delivered too is equivalent to the 90 odd that Laxman hit at Durban .... I guess the 36 he hit in the first inning, when Dhoni and Bhajji made 33 and 27 respectively was also a knock in pressure cooker situation with others failing (by others I mean we don't have to look at the scorecard but how Tendulkar scored more than the guy he is being compared to) And innings like that are probably included in the mountain of stats :hysterical: Of late, if I am not wrong, with the exception of the recent Australian series (home conditions), I have observed that Tendulkar usually fires when the openers (esp Sehwag) do well. When he has had to come in early and face the newish ball in testing conditions, he hasn't delivered as per the expectations :--D
zen Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Never happens But sounds very similar to how your posts pan out Appears as if you haven't followed the greatest batsman threads or you probably only read my posts w/o understanding the context:giggle:
akshayxyz Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Thats an average post man. laxman is certainly the best clutch player in test matches currently. Lets not fool ourselves. If you missed this previous post of mine - here is the mathematical explanation of the perception being established in this thread. ----------------------------- Cricket is a team sport. Sachin is one of the best batsman who can play at any position. He happens to play at top of the order. Laxman is also world class batsman, and plays at lower-middle order. Laxman is more likely to land in situations - playing with tail-enders. Hence VVS is more likely to see games through the finish line in the company of tail enders. This does not mean that Sachin can not capable of doing what VVS has done recently. In fact he has numerous 'clutch(er) situation' instances to his credit. What Laxman did is great, but it is uncalled for to pull Sachin in this "best pressure situation player". On top of that - creating a poll with binary choices, just at the 'right time'.. Sachin vs Laxman - is plain dumb, childish. And this "pressure" talk is superficial. That is why I said -if one really wants to explore this "ultimate-pressure-man" - then take time to define various pressure situations - then look back at stats. But then again, that still would be in hindsight, and would not mean that there is no other player than 'best' player who can handle such situation.

Hence VVS is more likely to see games through the finish line in the company of tail enders. Please take a look at the 2nd innings scorecard http://www.espncricinfo.com/south-africa-v-india-2010/engine/match/463147.html ^ Did VVS help Ind get a defendable total because he happens to bat with the tail? PS If you can understand what's being implied then you would also understand that the pressure situation is already defined!

I do not vote these kind of meaningless polls as it is impossible to define things like pressure or the value of an innings as it is a team sport and there are too many variables involved.

Sachin is the best batsman - absolutely true 'pressure' talk is superficial - absolutely false. It is obvious that laxman plays the best when stakes are very very high and chips are down. Sachin is a superb player under pressure himself but vvs is simply the best. Just like there are flat track players, there are players who crumble under pressure and players who excel under pressure.
