The entire team structure looks messed up. Why pick another opener besides Tendulkar in the first place when there is Gilchrist? Rather pick an extra middle order batsman. Openers : Tendulkar, Gilchrist Middle Order : Richards, De Silva, Lara, Bevan All Rounder : Kapil Dev Fast Bowlers : Akram, Garner, McGrath Spinner : Warne Don't see anything contentious about the choice of Kapil as the all rounder. At number 7 the last thing you need is some slowpoke like Kallis or Imran. And Kapil as an ODI bowler was better than in tests. He was ranked as the number 1 all rounder in the ICC rankings continuously for a period of 10 years or so. That is simply phenomenal. And to do it a time when his competition was Imran, Hadlee, and Botham makes it even more remarkable.

^ De Silva? Interesting call. Would you put him ahead of Ponting? How about Dean Jones, or he might have been a bit slow for modern ODI cricket SRT, AG, RP, VR, BCL, MB, KD, WA, JG, SW, GM

Good post. There are people who forget or don't know what a player Kapil was.

^ Jones wasn't in the shortlist provided on the ICC site, otherwise would have made a superb middle order batsman and would have been tough to choose between De Silva and him. Ponting is a good choice as well, but Richards is already there at number 3 to play his role in a much better capacity. Batting in the middle overs against quality spin bowling and maneuvering the field, both Jones and De Silva are perhaps better choices than Ponting.

I just cannot belive afridi didnt make it man, am very sad :cantstop: on a serious note: gilchrist/ganguly(if indians had a head start) wouldve been ideal. and kepil, imran in odis, not sure, i could've selected afridi :--D
