u stooges really post some real **** sometimes nobody is calling him a bad captain or anything like that. his record speaks for itsef but what u stooges need to remember is a captain is only as good as his team, and in all honesty, dhoni could get more out of this side, especially in situations where india is in a position of strength, i.e 130/6 on day 4 of a series deciding test
This IMO.

:cantstop: He did well, so? Do you judge Pwnting the Captain by his Two WC's? Yes he is better than what i though, Still not good enough.
Dhoni is still best captain india ever had.14/3 ratio :hatsoff::hatsoff: Still undefeated

That's borderline bias :--D
Dude, i do agree he is Good and the Best we have available from the options. Butnot just me most of Indian Cricket Fans have been dissapointed the way he handled Shreeshant Issue and played down to that Smith's hands. For him to be a great Captain he needs to pass this small little tests coming to him now. By the Time Legends retire, the challenge will be Huge. And i cannot convince myself that he will Pass that Litmus Test with Distinction .

Let's not forget that Dhoni also inherited a team that had no Kumble/Ganguly so that's two important players that he's done without. There's no doubt that the team assembled right now is a very, very good one but people act like he's been gifted an all time great side and all he does is hang out in the dressing room.

Well played India my last day on this forum because gunner ******* will be banning me soon because i wrote english bowlers will get r a p e d by India thanks for the cricket discussion Andy Bhai VVS Rajeev and my fellow indian fans . Good luck and i hope we win the world cup and many more series.

He is probably.
:cantstop: You are probably the Only Poster on ICF who thinks Ponting is a 'GOOD' captain, leave alone the greatest.

Okay, I guess everyone will be calm now. So lets have a quiet chat. 1. Dhoni has a phenomenal record in numbers. 2. But lacks at getting the best out of proven performers and by this I mean "historically proven". 3. He has an uncanny knack of backing players (like Mithun) & dropping them the very next series for no reason. 4. Dhoni is headed the Ricky Ponting way. 5. He lacks the ability to win matches without legends like Zak (look at 1st test and then 2nd). 6. Dhoni might be able to pull off an ikka-dukka win here and there when the legends go, but won't be able to win as consistenly.

I think the real problem though isn't Dhoni's captaincy, injuries, or even our bowlers. This was argueably one of the most underprepared Indian teams to tour SA. Not a single tour/practice match and practice sessions before hand rained out. If the BCCI had respected this side enough and given them two practice/tour matches then, as we saw, the Indian team only got going in the 2nd innings of the first test. I doubt the BCCI learn this lesson though.

:hysterical: Seriously, this post is pretty much full of fail.

I agree with you on the BCCI part.

thats a great point. we take good indian performances for granted, but given the manner in whch they are sent off on tours, its pretty amazing how they manage to get these results

Ganguly? Seriously don't think Ganguly has much role to play in the current side IMO, he's been a terrific leader and a fine player. Kumble is missed but again then Zaheer has been exceptional and I'd pick an in form Zaheer anyday over Kumble, home or away. It's safe to say that we've never had our lead pacer in such terrific form since Kapil. He deserves a lot of credit for the kind of success he gets with this team, that I agree with.

Well said  Captains should not be always judged by their stats, Dhoni is not rallying his troops like a great captain should. He isn't taking the fight to the opposition - we had them at 130 odd for 6 !! - that is the time a captain should step in and finish the job, if our bowlers(harbhajan) were good enough to reduce them to 130 for 6..and the like of Sreesanth and Zaheer clearly proven themselves in the series..it was upto dhoni to up the ante - surround the batsmen with fielders -give them the license to talk a lot of smack and unsettle a temperamental Boucher, but all he did was ridicule the players who did try to unsettle the batsmen previously. And Steven Waugh's response to all the racist taunts by his players at opposition batsmen : "Mental disintegration", His field placement after that was :fail:, he is nowhere close to a great captain - not by a country mile. Stats lie about a lot of things

Lol. Your post is hopelessly wrong. Dhoni has already shown tht he can win without key players, is an excellent man-manager does extract the best out of a player and backs the player to the hilt. Sresanths case is an exception imo.

believe it or not..captains can hugely influence selection -especially Dhoni. Isn't this the same guy who once threatened to quit captaincy if he doesn't get the players he wants or something..
