hari504504 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I think this guy has his days numbered as captain once the trinity retire and his real captaincy skills come to the fore.. We're pbly on the way to drawing 1-1 against SA at their turf - thank the indivduals who played out of their skins !..don't think Sehwag would've done a lot worse captaining the same side in the SA series (the point being that Dhoni did zilch in this series as a captain). How is he going to inspire any of the youngsters who will soon start staking their claim for a spot in the team ? A short leash only works for chihuahuas- Jadeja. Brace yourself for another Ponting-style revelation in roughly a year's time(by which most of the old guard would've honourably left the test scene)
Manny_Pacquiao Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 dhoni has a great team on his hands. results wouldnt be any different under someone like sehwag or gambhir. see how gambhir led india to a 5-0 whitewash over NZ. when u have a good team, captaincy is easy. dhoni basically needs to win WC (or at least come close) and maintain india's number 1 ranking. thats his brief. its gonna be hard for him once the old guns retire. he will have to manage india's transistion smoothly, and thats when wewill see how good a captain he really is.

I'll give you the right word - 'impossible' considering how he is evolving in his job Can;t blv this is the same guy who rebelled for youngsters and then led them in the VB series where he blanked Australia 2-0 in the finals..
Sidhoni Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 thats the problem in Indian fans u see, one day the same guy wud be humiliated for bad captaincy wen the team is drawing level in a test series and then he will be kept up on the shoulders once he wins the 2011 wc(if he does) even gr8 players like sachin, dravid, laxman, zak, dhoni or anyone else is humiliated wen its not his day
achilles Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 C'mon mate. Thats a touch harsh now. He's groomed- 1. Joginder Sharma, the most epic fast bowler of all time. 2. Manpreet Gony, who did enough at CSK in simply ONE season to earn an Indian cap. 3. Ravindra Jadeja the allrounder of Legendary value. 4. RP Singh, a bowler who Dhoni trusts so much that he's kept him out of the team. As in, we are being harsh to Dhoni. We're looking beyond ourselves. Manpreet is a far superior bowler than Sreesanth. Heck even Jogi is. Do you see the beauty with which they bowl those 110kph balls? These are far superior players to back, than Sreesanth. What if Sreesanth almost won us an inning? For Dhoni, it is more important that he(Dhoni) doesn't get banned for a game. So not getting banned > a match-winning session. Kudos. What if he's mishandled and neglected performers like Ojha? He's a good captain. I mean, he loves his players so much that he backs them by insulting them on a cricket field, at press conferences and will also be the first person to say, "dude, you are not performing well. You are dropped". But hey, he's doing some ancient voodoo to motivate his players by demoralizing them here. Clearly, we are overreacting. All Hail MS Dhoni on this issue. [/rant]
vaibhav_delhi Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 regarding this test: Good decision after winning the toss. Good captaincy in first innings. Examples, giving sresanth extended spells, getting amla on the pull shot, getting harris at leg slip. Didnt see kallis-boucher partnership of 2nd innings so cant comment on 2nd innings captaincy.

Sehwag or Gambhir wouldn't have done worse with this team. Tell me how has he contributed to this endeavour as a captain - inspired bowling changes ?, team selections ?,field placements ?.. heck atleast back your players against the opposition and its press....

asterix Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 WELL OFCOURCE the Gandhian Captain is aiming for a NOBEL PRIZE in Cricket at the expence of his own team mates..
ravishingravi Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 He is an average captain. But he did okay in the series overall.
achilles Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 WELL OFCOURCE the Gandhian Captain is aiming for a NOBEL PRIZE in Cricket at the expence of his own team mates.. He's a shrewd man. He suggests his players to have a go at the opposition by bringing them in the circle and not interrupting them one bit when they are chirping. But when the opposition cries in the media, he suddenly finds his PUREness and quickly reprimands his boy, to show the opposition how much he cares. Kamal hai guru :two_thumbs_up:
don_corleone840 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 WELL OFCOURCE the Gandhian Captain is aiming for a NOBEL PRIZE in Cricket at the expence of his own team mates.. some people always cry. :finger:
rkt.india Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Just sayin..if he really thought Ishant was piss poor..then he woulld've/should've played Umesh not only Ishant..ZAK and Sreesanth were also poor...little less than Ishant though
ravishingravi Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Basically defensive tactics by the captain. But then again he was never aggressive. Lack of intensity from bowlers in last two session really cost India. We might regret losing this golden opportunity. This is the difference between the good teams and great teams. India didn't pounce on the game when SA were down for the count.
ZodiaC Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 not only Ishant..ZAK and Sreesanth were also poor...little less than Ishant though Zak and Sree were not poor, if you were watching. Ishanth didn't make them play at all, was poor. I agree.
vaibhav_delhi Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 For a moment' date=' I thought you were Arsene Wenger ;)[/quote'] Why would one want to see the tailenders piling on 200 runs??:)
