Yadav is inconsistent in FC cricket and RP Singh has been subpar in Ranji Trophy cricket for a while, bar the odd spell.

CENTRAL ZONE vs EAST ZONE, DAY TWO CZ vs EZ Central Zone fights back CUTTACK: Central Zone made a remarkable recovery from three down for 55 to end the day at 169 without losing a further wicket in its first innings in reply to East's 427 on the second day of the four-day Duleep Trophy quarterfinal match at the Barabati Stadium here on Thursday. The men who led the charge were veteran Mohammad Kaif and wicketkeeper batsman Naman Ojha. The two not only hit half centuries but put on an unbroken 114-run partnership for the fourth wicket to keep their team in the hunt for the first innings lead. Earlier, East, resuming its first innings from the overnight score of 328 for five, was all out 36 minutes before lunch for 427 thanks to an attractive 69 by Wriddhiman Saha which enabled East to go past the 400-run mark. Wriddhiman Saha, who was unbeaten on 18 on Wednesday, grabbed valuable 69 runs before being run out. Saha’s 69 included 11 hits to the fence and one six as he batted for 148 minutes facing 98 balls. The East lower-order added 99 runs in 26.4 overs. Pankaj Singh, whose 43 wickets over the Ranji season were a major factor in Rajasthan winning the trophy, finished with figures of 4 for 126. Early breakthroughs The Central batting revolves around four veterans and a couple of youngsters. Out of the lot, Aakash Chopra and Hrishikesh Kanitkar are feared the most considering their form this season. And both left early. Ashok Dinda and Basanta Mohanty used the new ball exceptionally well. Mohnish Mishra did not last more than seven balls. A splendid out-swinger and a brilliant diving catch in front of first slip by Saha put Central a wicket down without any run on the board, and Central Zone made a disastrous start as it lost M Mishra (0) without opening account. Chopra and No. 3 Kanitkar found the going difficult and in the ninth over Dinda produced a ball that beat Chopra all ends up and landed in `keeper Saha's safe hands. The Kanitkar-Kaif combine tried to play itself in but left-arm orthodox bowler Iresh Saxena beat the Rajasthan skipper with flight and Natraj Behera at forward short-leg dived to pick up the catch. The visitors were struggling at 55 for three at one stage but India discard Kaif (78) and Ojha (50) stitched together unbeaten 114-run stand to walk out of second day’s play with a decent total. Recovery As the ball lost its shine and hardness, things became easy for the batsmen as Kaif and Ojha turned the heat on, especially the latter who did not hesitate to play some bold shots. Despite being dropped by Dinda at mid-off off Saxena when on 27, Ojha thundered two sixes off the left-armer and two fours in his unbeaten 50. Kaif remained not out on 78 with 12 sweetly hit boundaries. Mohammed Kaif and Naman Ojha struck fighting half-centuries as Central Zone overcame a wobbly start to reach a steady 169 for three after bowling out East Zone 427 in their Duleep Trophy quarter final, at the Barabati Stadium, here on Thursday. Only Kaif could muster a three figure score and Bundela fought till the end with his 80. Ojha was another one who crossed 50 but just. Otherwise there is hardly anything to speak about the batting line one which has just one batsman who may play for India in future--Menaria, and he too failed with the bat. Dinda and BC Mohanty have taken 4 wickets each. And now East has already lost its opener Goswami. Looks like the openers just can't handle the early movement of kookaburra ball which is more than that of SG ball.

This enabled East to take a 37-run lead on the third day of the four-day Duleep Trophy quarterfinal match. At close, East was 24 for the loss of Shreevats Goswami's wicket, bowled neck and crop by Rudra Pratap Singh with an in-swinger. Ishank Jaggi and Niranjan Behera, who were unbeaten on 12 and 7 runs respectively at stumps, survived a terrible mix-up. Bundela found in Murali Kartik an able partner and the two added 71 valuable runs for the seventh wicket. Bundela was involved in two small but very useful partnerships, the first with R.P. Singh (43 for the eighth wicket) and with Pankaj Singh (39 for the ninth wicket) that narrowed the lead to achievable limits. The find of the Ranji season, Ashok Menaria, (16) did not last long, as he became Dinda’s third victim being caught by substitute Tarjinder Singh. But Bundela found an able ally in Murali Kartik (43, 65 balls, 7x4). From 237 for six, the duo added 71 runs for the seventh wicket. While Bundela was patient in accumulating runs, Kartik was the aggressive one hitting as many as seven boundaries. However left-arm spinner Iresh Saxena trapped Kartik leg before with the score reaching 308 for seven. Bundela, in company of RP Singh (21), added another 43 runs. Just when it looked that Bundela-RP duo will achieve the imposing target, the UP speedster was dismissed after tea break being castled by Basant. Sooda Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 It makes no sense to not play Chahar after all he did this season with the ball for Rajasthan and be part of the historic Ranji trophy Championship victory. And wait a minute do I see 'His Uselessness' a.k.a Kaif name there in the playing XI. This guy has now gotten to a stage where he cannot even put bat to ball even at the Ranji trophy level and gets to play in the Zonal XI all because he represented India once upon a time. I guarantee that there are atleast 7-8 players that has outscored him this season in the Ranji trophy in the central zone that did not get selected to play. What a sorry state of affairs when players like Chahar are kept out despite performing number one and number two non-performing batsman like Kaif taking the place of more deserving batsman that have earned it through performances in Ranji trophy. Utter shame. 105 in CZ first innings the only guy to really dig in for them. Not bad for a guy who 'cannot put bat to ball' eh...

Not bad for a guy who 'cannot put bat to ball' eh...Something for which the EZ bowlers need to hang their head in shame for the rest of their lives. And by the way it is always easy to talk after the fact. But my broader point of 'His Uselessness' not deserving of a spot in CZ still stands when one sees he is not even in the list of top 50 scorers in the Ranji trophy this season the means for which one gets picked to the zonal teams.
