If the rr goes up for a shorter case, its ok. but this one just looks weird.

Chasing 105 runs in 15 overs with 4 wickets left is more than difficult than chasing 70 in 10 overs with 4 wickets left, so runs can't obviously be cut down in proportion to the run rate.

Actually you are right. But it just looks weird. I used my own method to calculate and dl method makes sense. it should have been about 24 runs per 24 balls then multiply it with remaining batsmen = 0.4 x 24 = 9.6 runs then the number of overs left = 50 overs left means we multiply by 1 40 overs left= multiply by 0.9 30 lefts = multiply by 0.8 and so on then 15 overs = 0.65 = 0.65 x 9 = 6.24 runs approx so looks about right.
Ram Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Its a perfectly logical system. The only flaw that i think could be corrected is the undue weightage they give to, top-order wickets. That may have been the case when a few years ago when most teams did not have substantial lower-order batsmen. These days, with most teams having batsmen till numbers 7 or 8, they could possibly give less weightage to top-order wickets.

When Duckworth/Lewis looks at historic matches, it sees that if you are 6 down chasing 250+, very rarely do you last till the final 4 overs of an innings. You either win before or usually be allout before 50
Guest Hiten. Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 D/L Method is the real spoilsport ...literally! Why do we need to gauge out remainder of the match after rains spoils the fun ? We are hypothetically predicting what the result will be, had the rain not interrupted. I just have to go back to, two consecutive matches and say South Africa were ridiculously sh*t at finishing up the games so what makes the statistician say that RSA would have not the same in 4th ODI ?. In the 2nd ODI, India out of nowhere showed up and won, and we repeated the same in the very next game. So, why bring in your calculators to decide who wins the game in 4th ODI ? In all possibilities we would have given the south africans run for their money had we been allowed to play our full quota of overs. I am not necessarily saying, India would have pulled a blinder again but I'm asking for a chance for us to repeat our twin heroics :dontknow: **** you D/L :finger:

Some of my suggestions: 1) Have those retractable roofs like basketball/football stadiums. 2) Have a detailed whether forecast the night before. I presume in this digital age, we can get accurate forecasts. Adjust the game accordingly before it begins. For example, if we know its going to rain at 10 pm on a game that starts at 3 pm, make it a 35 over each game, instead of having one team bat 50 overs and the other use D/L system. 3) Just play in the damn rain. Why is that such a big deal??? 4) Worst case scenario, play the game again entirely. I remember reading, that in a WC South African Republic were comfortably winning against the Kiwis and suddenly there was this deluge. After the pitch had been cleared off rain water , the South Africans come on to bat and find that they have to score 22 runs from 1 delivery or something, thanks to Duck Worth Lewis. At least the people whose brain child the D/L system was weren't too full of their creation. They named it aptly. Duck worth Lewis system, coz thats what its worth anyways. :P My entire complaint is against the excessive use of mathematics in cricket. Thas the real thing killing cricket, not T-20 as the purists claim. If it looks like its going to rain, what is a batsman supposed to do? Risk his wicket and try winning the game, or keep D/L in mind and play slowly and safely. Who will solve the difficult equations for him and tell him how much to score. Most cricketers are dunces. Can't expect that of them. Out with the D/L I say. :hatsoff:

D\L has changed a lot since then. You won't be finding entirely ridiculous scenarios as that game you mentioned. I think its a fair enough method to decide the games. Though the losing team will always feel cheated if they don't get to play after the rain interruption, denying them the chance to make a comeback into the game.
