jhakati Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 If India had won this ODI series, our favorites tag would go through the roof and in my view the players would be over-confident. It's actually good to lose, this way nobody will be complacent and look to prove themselves again. Especially the batsmen like raina, yuvi, dhoni etc. will be killer on subcontinent pitches so no worries, just hope yusuf has not peaked too early! P.S. - Our best recent WC performance in 2003 under dada was when we had just been battered in NZ and everyone had written us off, being underdogs works for India!!!
Sachinism Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Agree with you to an extent but I'm sure we're still going into this WC as favorites
Sir_Afridi Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 How is it a good thing when India lost a series?? Only the losing team fans make these kind of excuses to feel better. India had a golden chance of winning their 1st ever ODI series win in SA but they blew it.
fineleg Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 There is nothing good about losing the series. These are just excuses or rather clutching at straws. Raina, Dhoni and Yuvi really need to up the batting. I dont think its true that just because the soil is Indian, they are going to haul up half-centuries once the world cup starts. Especially, Dhoni is the biggest liability with his tuk-tuk also going nowhere these days. At least, Raina is an explosive batsman and can bowl too. Same with Yuvi - with Yuvi having better bowling skills than Raina. But Dhoni? Just keeping. MSD's current batting form is cipher, Captaincy no great shakes. There was once upon a time that MSD was #1 ODI bat, hope that he can at least tuk-tuk-tuk to some runs in WC2011 Unless all 3 bat well in WC, we can say bye-bye in quarterfinals :bye:
Zap_Brannigan Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Finey, its called looking at the bigger picture. The bigger..the biggest picture right now is the WC. It would have been good if we won the series, but a series win could have masked our problems, mainly yuvi, raina and Dhoni's form. Now its out in the open and hopefully they will work extra hard on it. The near loss we had in 2003 WC against holland was a big kink in our ass to wake up. Sadly, its always the same scenario. We start badly and need a wake up call to put our best efforts.
fineleg Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 a series win could have masked our problems' date= mainly yuvi, raina and Dhoni's form. Now its out in the open and hopefully they will work extra hard on it. Fair enough, accepted. And I do hope all of these folks work extra hard on the areas to improve. For that matter, even Kohli and Yusuf Pathan have areas where they need to focus on and become even better for the WC. In the long run, I hope the team management can move up to the level where they can identify and work on weaknesses even if the series was won based on one or two match winners. I still think MSD and Gary Kirsten would identify the weak areas even if the series came our way. Maybe some of the media and some sections of public may be celebrating the series victory rather than being aware of the areas where we need improvement.

Roshanrocks Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 i hope Sehwag, Sachin, Gambhir heal quickly
Hindustani Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 It's A Good Thing we lost the SA ODI Series What kind of lahori logic is this ? Team India got thoroughly outplayed by SA and the middle order sucked, though unfortunately the moment India win 2 matches in world cup, every one will forget about this series loss. *sigh*
spectre Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Nothing is good when you lose. Stop these BS threads by any chance, you and fineleg are related to each other ?
jhakati Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 It will be a good thing we should lose for WC< so the Indian players can be fresh and play way better in IPL The whole SA series was played so we could lose and alter are minds This is new strategy in Cricket, we have to lose a series to better ourselves in the next. It would really make more sense to say that our C team gave them a fight with pathetic middle order and some rear guard fight back ur dumb and to move it to a joke section, now thats what i call stupid:finger:
