For long now, Dhoni's reputation for brilliance on the international scene was dismissed as a one-off from Jharkhand. Tiwary's successful rise to the top would've surely boosted the ailing health of cricket in the state. Two-lion pride Jharkhand has never had a rich cricket tradition to boast about, with its barren trophy cabinets filled with nothing more than cobwebs. Since its inception, the state has played its cricket in the second tier of the Ranji Trophy — and has never managed to climb to the top rung — having amassed just one outright victory since 2006. But despite the limping ghost-like structure, the state has erected two Jharkhand flags in the only eleven that matters, the Indian cricket team. While Dhoni had been the undisputed king of Jharkhand, Tiwary's coming of age has ensured that the “Land of Forests” now has a two-lion pride. In its short history, Jharkhand has won five out of 31 matches, while the last four years have provided even more startling figures: one win in 20 games. The excuses come rolling in. “Firstly, Dhoni doesn't play in the domestic season because he wants to keep himself fit for the international fixtures. He inspires Team India with his strategies, but the Jharkhand dressing room gets none of his brilliance. Secondly, the wickets that are provided for Plate matches are hostile. Unlike in the Elite group, you will hardly see a team score of 500+ runs in Plate. How can we ever better ourselves if we are given the step-brotherly treatment?” asks a senior member of JSCA, who does not wish to be named. Setting up nurseries of cricket is the unanimous answer. “Change will only happen when we start working grass-roots upwards, which has started to happen in Jharkhand. The seeds have been sown, I do see a bright future for Jharkhand cricket,” 34-year old Rajiv adds. Instrumental in setting up the local academies to find the fresh crop, Choudhary says: “We now have several academies sprouting up within the association. Whether it is in Ranchi, Jamshedpur or Dhanbad, young cricketers imitate their heroes by flocking long manes and similar batting styles. These kids will eventually blossom into fine cricketers. There are already a few in the pipeline of success, such as fast bowler Varun Aaron who hits incredible speeds at such a young age and batsman Ishank Jaggi.” Generation next At the age of 21, Jaggi has already made heads turn with his appetite for runs, and the ability to occupy the crease. The youngster is confident that his generation of cricketers will help take Jharkhand ahead. “Dhoni bhaiya has taught us that there are no short-cuts in life. He has imbibed in us that once we work hard, success will follow. Like in the case of Tiwary,” he says. But why haven't the results shown so far? “We may not have won any matches last season but the morale of the side is much better than the old days. We want to excel together. My main aim is to make sure Jharkhand reaches the Elite division. Once we manage to do that, the national selectors will keep a keen eye on us,” Jaggi says, underlining his priorities in the game.

It was all because of that rubbish Neo because of which we missed him watch. Also Aaron-- I've heard about him but have never watched him. Hope they show some of the Vijay Hazare or Deodhar trophy matches in which these two are playing. It'll be good if they come through!

Played a few games in the last challenger trophy and looked quite good. Varun Aaron is a name we have been hearing for so long. Did not play IPL or in any of the challenger games so far. One more pacer named Rahul Shukla is also there. Have heard that he can bowl 90 mph+. Played for the AIS in the emerging players tournament recently. There was another young left arm spinner named Shahbaz Nadeem (played u-19 for India). Had a decent start to his 1st class career but has gone into oblivin this season. All these guys are 20-21 years old. So future does look good for Jharkhand cricket provided these players are given adequate support and facilities.

So future does look good for Jharkhand cricket provided these players are given adequate support and facilities. until we saw them, we cannot say how quick they bowl 90 mph or not...Talk of their speed may be exaggerated because I do not think they both have been measured on speed guns in any matches yet they have played and usually print media hype our pacers too much I feel Varun Aaron may be a 140 bowler and Rahul Shukla will be around 135

I am hearing his name for the last four years when he was 17...he and Pradeep Sangwan both were sent to England for biomechanical training by MRF pace foundation. He was in 12th standard and since then he is touted to be quick. He has done well and U19 and U22 level too...has not done that well yet in ranji FC games only one 5-fifer..though he is pretty young

Varun Aaron seems to have played most of the games in that series. Check the scorecards. Used to open the bowling.

rkt.india Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 I still do not know why he wasn't picked for last U-19 WC and the WC before that..could have been picked for any one...Sangwan was picked in 2008 and both are of same grade....he has done so well in Cooch Behar trophy and other U19 tournaments in India, has taken quite a few fifers in junior cricket..Instead ordinary Harshal Patel was selected in 2010 which shows the politics plays a big part n junior cricket in India. I think big powerful associations have big saying in selections.

I wish he plays FC matches as soon as possible, really bored to see manpreet gony the ***got showing off his ordinary exploits, really need some aggressive bowlers coming through the ranks. I feel there is a CHANGE in the way fast bowlers are coming through in india. Even though they die out soon, but atleast we have them coming which is better than not having them at all. Remember in the 90's we had people like dodda gyanesh, johnson, kumaran, yohannan who were really military medium then in 2000's we had vrv singh, rp singh, ishant,sreesanth,nehra,zaheer coming through who have crossed 145+ speeds easily in their peak. Sadly the peak lasts for very less duration. Maybe someday the Peak would last more in the future for upcoming bowlers. Can only hope ..

IN last 3-4 years, Dhoni, I think only played once for Jharkhand and Aaron was not in the team at that time. I doubt he will even know who Varun Aaron is?
