Ashraful_Rox Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I don’t like to criticize people much but enough is enough. You are a pathetic and a hopeless person. If you are talking about your own country like that then you don’t even deserve to cheer for them. Or if this is another way for you to kiss our behind then that’s wrong in so many ways (which sounds like it). We were not good once but we used to cheer for our country with our heart and passion and look where we ended up. Each player in the team wants to win the WC because they want to satisfy their country and the people in it and prove to the world YES WE EXIST AND WE ARE NUMBER 1. Your team might not be up the ladder but I have seen them play and they have passion. At least your fellow Bengali mates have the balls and courage to defend your country and you are just a spineless person. Even the Pakistani fans here do not criticize their team and put them down like the way you are doing. Anyways, I wish your team luck for the WC except the 1st match. We are winning that one :--D I wasn't talking about my country, I was talking about my cricket team. I love my country, don't put words into my mouth. Kissing your behind, you probably do that on your own spare time, I am not interested in talking about your hobbey. The Pakistani fans had legends like Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Waqar Younus, they won the world cup, they had something to cheer about, they were never the punching bag for other teams. Don't even compare Pakistan cricket team with Bangladesh team, we are miles behind them. My fellow bengali mates might have balls, but they don't have brains to back up their statement, when you argue without facts and stats it does makes you sound rather stupid. I support Bangladesh, Pakistan and India and I don't see what your problem is witht that? Do you expect me to say "we are going to thrash India" " Sehwag got lucky this time as Mashrafi is injured" or bash Sehwag for calling us ordinary which we indeed are. I am a realist and after 2007 wc encounter we have been beaten comprehensively by India so I beleive our chances our dim.

bangladesh_fan Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 this is my first post in this forum. bangladesh probably has the best opportunity to make a serious impact in a global tournament, a much bigger impact than 2007 accomplishments. i really think we should reach the quarter final, possibly more than that. we are playing in our own backyard, the team is much better now overall. then again, the team needs to be careful and everyone needs to play his part.

Unless BD goes on to win the WC, i don't think the impact, even if they reach the semis/final will last if BD goes back to its habits of losing most of their games after the WC. In 99, Zim made it to super 6. In 03, kenya even made the semifinals along with a super 6 for Zim. Last time Ireland too along with BD made it to the next round. So upsets are always happening in the WC and reaching the QF or SF will not even make a dent in impact in the long run, as seen from WC. The only way BD will really be considered a non-minnow is when they start winning regularly against the good sides.
bangladesh_fan Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 do not compare zimbabwe, ireland, kenya with bangladesh. do you know why? because bangladesh have a huge fan base and sponsorship is not a problem. besides, the new generation is heavily into cricket. we should not have problem in finding good players and grooming them. you can not say the same for zimbabwe, ireland and kenya probably. after the success bangladesh got in 2007 world cup, the moral of the team went high. yes, we lost many games after the world cup but now we have a team consisting of players like tamim, shakib, mushfiqur, junaid, abdur razzak (each of these players can trouble any team, specially on bangladeshi soil). what i am trying to say is, bangladesh cricket has improved quite a lot. there used to be a time when spectators were happy with just good performance, nowadays some of us are even dreaming big (as big as winning the world cup). i do not think dreaming big is unrealistic, considering our neighbour countries (india, pakistan, sri lanka) used to be crap too. yes, we took a long time to develop but we are slowly becoming a force. we are not there yet, but we are on our way.

Do you realize that i said the same thing? "Impact on the world" as you said is achieved only by constant good performances and not one off in the WC. If you do not want to be compared with the minnows, then stop comparing yourselves with SL, Pak and India before you achieve something. Winning against NZ is a start, reaching the 2nd stage of the WC is the next step, but BD really needs to do similarly well for a long time before people stops seeing BD wins as upsets. But if BD like Ireland, kenya and BD itself fail after the WC like they have done in the past, they will be back to the minnowland.
bangladesh_fan Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 performance in the world cup is far more important than performances in regular tours. there is a reason why this tournament is called "world cup". i did not want to say "winning the world cup" (because it may sound bold at this moment), therefore i said "impact in a global tournament". i do not think winning against nz was a start, the "start" started from the 2007 world cup (specially after victory against india). after that, we groomed these players and look where they are now. they have the capabilities to pose a threat, which was not the case before. in my opinion, bangladesh is neither a minnow nor a force right now. they are in the middle. we have beaten zimbabwe every time we played them in a series since 2007, therefore we are better than all minnows. we also gave tough times to strong nations, although consistency was missing. according to your definition, west indies, new zealand and pakistan are minnows too. because for the last few years, they barely won any tournament and were never consistent. pakistan and new zealand did good in global tournaments though. and no, i was never comparing bangladesh with neighbouring countries (pakistan, india and sri lanka). what i was saying is, neighbouring countries used to be crap too and they managed to become top forces.

Since that WC and up until the NZ series, BD has won a grand total of 3 ODIs (WI 2nd team removed) in 3.5 years or around 40 games. You have literally won less than 1 game a year against the good sides. If that's the kind of start you like, then by all means go ahead, call that a start. WI,Pak and NZ, havent won tournaments but i doubt that they have a less than 10% winning ratio. As bad as India, Pak, Srilanka, even NZ and WI were, they were never as bad as BD was in international cricket in either tests or ODIs. Being crap and being utterly dismal even after nearly 300 international games are completely different.
vvvslaxman Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 This is the first world cup in their own territory after gaining their test status. It is a double edged sword. Either they do very well with crowd backing or collapse under pressure with so much expectations.

But you agree with NZ and Pak? You are right about WI. Ever since their top players and board fight in 2009, they have never won any against good teams. But NZ and Pak have been winning considerably more than BD. Calling WI minnows wouldnt be out of order if they continue to keep losing, the same way BD is expected to continuously perform to be not called a minnow. I am using the same measuring scale for both. Consistent performance, either good or bad. I am sure the continuous beating India gives BD on regular basis left a mark in your mind that you have to hold on to one offset occurrence. India has since that beating, gone on to win the T20 WC, beat Aus in CB series, gained #1 in ODI rankings (albeit for a very short time) and are currently the #1 test side in the world. I am sure these aforementioned achievements helped me overcome that 1 loss.
bangladesh_fan Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 i think new zealand will fall behind bangladesh very soon. pakistan is slightly better than bangladesh right now, no doubt. as a matter of fact, pakistan is the only test playing nation bangladesh have not beaten in the 21st century. yes, india gave bangladesh continuous beatings but i am sure 2007 world cup game weighed more than any other regular games. india (a heavyweight) actually got knocked out from the world cup by some nobody players (these bangladeshi players were relatively nobodies back then). you may not want to agree with me, but i think india should remember that world cup 2007 game as a blessing in disguise. i think that loss was a kick in the backside for india, they started to do good after that nightmarish world cup. in other words, that game created a new era for bangladesh as well as for india. bangladesh found some promising players while india became stronger.

Yes i agree with you .. consistently winning is the answer.. just reaching the semis or quarters won't do.. just like it was a fluke for india winning the 83 world cup.. took them long 25+ years to actually attain the number 1 position .. so, yes i get ur point.. well said.

India won the champions trophy in 1985 too without losing a match. How WC 1983 was fluke ?:dash1:

How WC 1983 was fluke ?:dash1: Don't u see under zap's definition that was a fluke too.. coz they hvnt 'consistently' won since then.. same with bangladesh u see.. so what that bangladesh beat newzealand 4-0 pretty convincingly.. until bangladesh whitewashes every opponent in every series from now on...

You sir are an idiot. India had won a test series against every team by then. India has 5 Asia cup more than any other Asian country. Bangladesh is a minnow. You have to live with it.

In 1982, India had a win/loss ration of 1.25 (yes more wins than losses, they just played 9 games). So lets agree to call BD minnows till they get atleast a 1.25 win/loss ratio in a year. Just for clarification, i dont mean a .125 win/loss ratio that BD usually has.
