zen Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Let see if we can predict the scores (and thus results) of the 3 India games against Eng, SA and WI in the WC by calculating runs by doing the following: 1. Ind batsmen's SR and Avg vs opposition bowlers' SR and ER 2. Opposition batsmen's SR and avg vs Ind bowler's SR and ER You also have to weight in factors like pitch conditions and performances in day and night games, etc. You will have to show your calculations so this not like a general prediction thread. You can pick the games you want to do the analysis for or do all 3 if you wish. It will be interesting to see how close we can get to reality by doing the above exercise. And there’s no point trying to predict a score based on things like pitches as well, because we have to factor in things like injuries to players, fall of early wickets etc, which is impossible to do at this point in time.

There is no correlation because I didn't ask what our batsman would avg against our bowlers, did I? :winky: From your post, I get a feeling that you don't understand what this thread is about so wouldn't bother with the duh generalizations that you made. Based on what you said, it doesn't even make a sense to even discuss things like "who do you think would win the WC" or "who would get the most runs or wkts" as you never know who would get injured so it would be impossible to tell. (see it's not hard to write duh generalizations). For people who understand what's being asked, they know this is not easy which is why the thread title says this is a challenge.

What factors to consider like how you think the pitch would be, day-night game, etc is up to you. You could just even consider their career performances if you want. And yeh for the same match, you can only post your analysis if your predicted score is different from what's already posted for that game. (This is assuming some folks would take the challenge :P)

Yea, 1000s of people understand this ‘challenge’, which is why we’ve had 100s of pages of unending replies from posters who are simply too eager to put in their responses. To even claim that we can predict, within reasonable limits of accuracy, the scores of games based on our batsmen averages against opposition bowler’s ER and ER is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard in my life. I think Morris is taking it a little overboard. I think it's a very time consuming challenge and only someone with 10 hours of free time would take on this challenge.
