Salute to Afridi

Folks, even though a thread already exists but I think the great accomplishment of breaking the record for best bowling performance as a captain against the mighty Kenyans (who made the world cup semis in 2003 while Pakistan was knocked off in the preliminary stages) definitely deserves another. In fact there's a long list of accomplishments and records already achieved by the great man and I would like to refresh the memory of cricket fans on this glorious occasion... 1. Highest number of retirements in a year 2. Lowest number of Tests played between "retirements" - I think 2 :smiley: 3. Highest number of balls eaten during a game 4. Maximum amount of time spent dancing on a pitch - 4 to mins I think but may have to check with Pak scorers who were keeping time :smiley: 5. Highest number of slogs not to connect with the ball 6. Lamest excuse ever made at the ICC disciplinary hearing - "I wasn't eating/tampering the ball, I was only smelling it with my mouth" :haha: 7. Least amount of average time spent by a batsman on the pitch per innings to average 24 8. "Youngest" player to play cricket in any form - legend has it that Afridi first played for his school side when he was just shy of his 2nd B'day and the kid was such a "beast" even at that age that he was taller and stronger than 8 year olds who played in the match :smiley: 9. The first player ever to wear sunglasses in a night game - closely followed by most of the Pak team when they were able to get their hands on the sunglasses via their sponsors 10. The first player, maybe first human as well, to defy nature and remain a 28 year old in 2011 after being born in 1972 :hail: I, and all the cricket fans, are in awe of such great accomplishments and I doff my hat to one and only Shahibzada Noorzada Haramzada Mohammad Shahid Khan "The Beast" Afridi :hatsoff: I am blessed to see the talented 24 year old with so much "potential" to add one more record to his name and hope we will get to see many more over the years!

On serious note, how many bowlers captain their teams, they must be rare especially in world cup. pakistan seem to have more bowlers as captain than batsman. Imran, Akram, Waqar, now Afridi. We only had Kapil, then Kumble (but never captained in WC).

How about the first captain to take an additional run after the ball bounced off of his helmet while running the first one. Even the mild Sangakarra who rarely whinges, had to do it in this instance.

First captain to have a powerplay field set when actually there was no power play taken by the batting side . He didn't realize that for 5 full overs. :cantstop:
:omg: This is legendary :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Really good article..:super: In between, while you are at it you can read following article as well.. http://totalgadha.com/tgtown/cricket/hail-shahid-afridi-pakistan-cricket-captain-p/

Sorry for the delay in reacting to this piece of news, according to which Shahid Afridi is the new captain for Pakistan cricket team, in all formats. Actually the absurdity of that news was such that with that news, I went in a state of “coma” and quite frankly, was quite near the “full stop” after the “comma” too. But now since the news that “Mr. Afridi is the captain” has sunk in, here is the inside scoop, regarding the upcoming Asia Cup which you surely would not like to miss.. 1) Cricket Balls made of Tungsten Carbide, the hardest known metal on earth, would be made available to the Pakistani Team, if after winning the toss, Afridi says “We are going to have a ball …”. No Dinner - No problem.. His innocent appearing words would be taken seriously, keeping in mind, Afridi’s ball gobbling and suckling attempt at Perth, during a match against Autralia,when he bit off the ball and then later told the refree that he was just trying to smell it(read here for more). Fearing that since now he is the captain, this habit might soon become the cult habit for his team, this rule has been devised. Pakistan Cricket board(PCB) has agreed to bear the expenses of such made to order cricket balls but further want that the stumps and bails should also be made of same metal, as if just in case, Afridi wants to have a change of taste. 2) The statistician and record keepers have been ordered to be on their nimbly toes in matches featuring Pakistan, because Pakistani team is vowing to blindly follow their captain and his style, which only means 1 thing - batting records galore, as over 500 runs in a single ODI innings OR under 20 runs, both look an equal possibility for a team full of Afridi wannabes. Overstressed statisticians retiring after the ASIA cup is a mighty possibility but then Afridi is Afridi. 3) Pitch curators would be provided overtime allowances as they are expected to relay the pitch more than 2-3 times during the same match. This rule has been framed keeping in mind, Afridi’s oozing dancing talent, which once saw him giving those groovy hip swivels and heel turners on a mid pitch, in a 2005 test match against England, when he apparently thought neither players nor umpires were eyeing him(read here). PCB is trying to get ICC to understand that this was a one off thing and Afridi was just dress rehearsing for a role as the Rockstar, in a proposed Mukesh Bhatt movie, and no such arrangement is needed. 4) Winner pose - Get out your cameras!! PCB has banned those hugs and high fives , as the team should follow the footprints of their captain and his celebratory style i.e. holding a finger pointing to the cloud, a broad grin on his face, and those flowing hair locks is a must. Now you know why Shoaib Akhtar was recalled to the Pakistan team and Naved Ul Hasan, albeit with those flakey artificial hair is out of the team. 5) The Pakistani team, are aspiring for those Greek God perfect looks of Afridi. They feel the need of grooming themselves in the same vain way. They have already raised the request of additional beauty Allowance, which would keep them in good stead. PCB , when last contacted, was adamant that complete facial plastic surgery(i.e. brand new face manufacture) costs would not be included in the allowance while the Akmal brothers wanted otherwise and are still hoping for result in their favour. Good Look/luck, Team Pakistan. That is all for this edition of “Cricket Fiction”, the unpublished cricket magazine of fantasies…Catch you soon!

Laugh away... just hope that Afridi doesn't have the last laugh. Pakistan team have their quirks, but make no mistake, they have an excellent bowling attack in Afridi, Umar Gul and even Shoaib Akhtar..... it was 100 times better bowling than what the Indians dished up against mediocre B'desh. Misbah-ul- haq looks in ominous form and both the Akkmal brothers are very, very fast and fit and give 200 % in the field. The less said about the Indian fielding, the better. You better pray that the top 3-4 Indian batsmen click in every match as that's the only hope that India has.... make a 300+ score in every match and somehow restrict the opposition to less than 300 !

Which is why we have consistantly restrcied opposition to low scores. We have restricted both SA and Aus to below 250 scores lately but since you started watching cricket only since this world cup began, you wouldnt know
