Even when not in 100% form, he scores at a better strike rate than the other players as demonstrated yesterday. If pathan and Kohli had batted sensibly, we would have got 350 like I said before.

And moreover our problem is bowling not batting.
NareshK Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Sreesanth is no trundler. He is one of the very few Indian pace bowlers who can take wickets and he plays in the test team for a reason. But he should be used wisely. You cant expect him to do the containing job or bowl in the slog overs. It will be a gamble to pick him but India can afford that with their batting. You leave out Kohli and you still have Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Pathan, Harbhajan. That's a hell of a batting line up.

But I think except for Chawla our bowlers did a decent job looking at the flat wicket there..Harbhajan definitely needs to pick up wickets rather than being just economical. Munaf was ok..but Chawla was really disappointing and I would like ashwin to be given the chance now so we can get it right for the knockouts.

King Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Not much at all, if 338 is not a good score than what is? I don't reckon Raina would have done any better. In fact he has not been in the best of the form recently and that is the sole reason he wasn't in the team.

Raina would have very handy and he would have never left that Yardy guy to settle down. Yuvraj was struggling against him. A 360 score would have really made England resigned a lot earlier, pyscologically. Indian bowling was really bad i agree, but i am stressing that a good finisher was required at that stage. No point sending Kohli and Yusuf to finish it in slog overs. Yusuf as much i have seen needs some time to settle down and then pull out his big ones. Sachin=GOD Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I've always been a very big fan of Raina and have always supported his case for a place in the team but right now I feel that with our present bowling woes it is imperative that we go with 5 specialist bowlers because we've seen this in two consecutive matches now - most of the batsmen are in form and score over 300 runs but the bowlers are simply unable to defend that score. So the need of the hour is an extra bowler and that we can have in the team only by dropping Yusuf and getting Ashwin or Nehra in his place. As for people saying that we should drop Yuvi - I completely disagree with that. Till a few days ago I also was of the opinion that Yuvi should be dropped but now that he's starting to find his form, it would be a very big mistake to drop him because if he comes in full form then he can be probably the most lethal batsman in this line up. If somehow our bowling improves then I'd most certainly like to go with 4 bowlers and Raina in the team ahead of Yusuf Pathan because Raina is a far better finisher than Yusuf Pathan and can be more dangerous than Yusuf on Indian pitches. But till the bowling continues to be as bad it is right now, I see no way in which Raina can be accommodated in the side

You need players to bat in their positions where they are best at. You dont drop the best to accommodate the rest. All the stat and ranking junkies can go and take a break. Whats the point in having Kohli at No.7. Its just a waste of space.

The thing I saw as wrong was not Raina being left out, but putting Yusuf up the order where he's wasted. If we had given Virat or Yuvi that platform I am sure we would have batted more conservatively and easily got 320+
