spectre Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Suresh Raina So many armchair pundits here called for too many consolidators in the team over a finisher in Raina. Today he was sorely missed. He would have taken this Yardy boy to cleaners and finished the end overs in a high as he always does You need a finisher @ No.6. World best No.6 is being missed badly. The difference of 20 runs was very evident. This is not a Kohli bashing thread. He has done wonderfully well and rightly deserves the chances he is getting. But you need to play players in their best positions and Kohli is no finisher or a big striker.
vvvslaxman Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 If anyone has to go out that would be Yusuf pathan. Not Kohli.
Sid Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 We must use Yusuf, always he is wasted,he should have been sent ahead of Yuvi today,I dont know why he is wasted and given just 2-3 overs .ATM he is in better form than Yuvi and we should make use of it
ShahidAfridi Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 You score 338 yet you are set to lose the game. And you blame the batsmen?
Ranvir Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 The man who is most missed is Kumble. He used to put a lot of pressure on the batsman.
someone Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 The man who is most missed is Kumble. He used to put a lot of pressure on the batsman. Not sure about him as well, not really a world class bowler but still a great spinner for india. He would be able to nothing
bear23 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Kohli should not be out at any cost. In fact he should always come to bat at no:4. Today also there was no sense in sending in Yuvraj ahead.
zen Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 We need to play 5 bowlers, the score we got was decent. Anything over 320 should be competitive.
Ranvir Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Not sure about him as well, not really a world class bowler but still a great spinner for india. He would be able to nothing He was world class. Look how many wickets he took.
someone Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 He was world class. Look how many wickets he took. No point is arguing. Kumble was a good player but really he could not have done anything in this match situation.
Sachin=GOD Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 As much as I'm a fan of Raina, I think the way forward for India is to drop Pathan and bring in Ashwin because most of our batsmen seem to be in extremely good form and there's not much need of a number 7 batsman while nearly all our bowlers seem to be struggling. So I'd like 5 specialist bowlers and then sadly there's not going to be any place for Raina in the team :((
spectre Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 I dont agree to the five bowler theory at all. There is going to an odd day, where the top order can fail, and in such a case, the match is finished as we all know how good our bowlers are 2 pacers + 2 spinners is the way to go, and Ashwin should play ahead of Chawla. He is good in PPs and a wicket taking option as well. Harbhajan cant get wickets. On hindsight, I agree that Raina should have been in, place of Pathan. In any case Kohli should play at the top, if he is to play. This guy cant hit from word go and its just wasting him at No.6/7. Even Pathan need to settle in and only then go for big ones. The only players in the team who can go to top gear from the start are Raina, Yuvraj and Dhoni (partly) As much as I'm a fan of Raina' date=' I think the way forward for India is to drop Pathan and bring in Ashwin because most of our batsmen seem to be in extremely good form and there's not much need of a number 7 batsman while nearly all our bowlers seem to be struggling. gaurav92 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 The track was really good for batting ,and shorter boundaries and lightening quick outfields made the matters worse. So IMO India should go for spinning tracks from now, and obviously every team must have some home advantage, isn't it ?
rkt.india Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I also wanted to open this thread...thats Raina can do best..he can explode straightway where as Kohli takes time to go..we could have 360
asterix Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 That was another of Dhoni's mistakes..sending UV ahead of Kohli..Although UV made 50 but he killed the momentum. Both Dhoni and UV were unable to score off Yardy..Kohli with quicker bat speed would've scored more against Yardy, might have batted him out of attack. Dhoni should STOP PLAYING around with the batting order. He has already screwed up India's chances by his stupid and pathetic onfield captaincy. By playing around the batting order he is screwing up India's batting too...
gaurav92 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Agreed that an in form Kohli should have been sent ahead of yuvi, but well whats more important to the team : yuvi coming into form or Kohli continuing his form ? The latter will not lose his form by not playing in one game, but if Yuvi clicks his form, it would mean that our batsmen are all in good form. So in that context sending Yuvi up was not a bad decision at all.Having said that, Kohli is not a no.6-7 player, he needs time to settle before playing his strokes, so Dhoni should send him at no.5 ahead of him. p.S : I still feel Yuvi hasn't found his form yet. He was still reluctant to sweep swann and yardy, and he was playing them off the back foot which clearly shows that he isn't confident. But it wont be long before we see this man, kneeling down to play the slog sweep into the crowd ;-)
Jersey #10 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Kohli needs to be benched before India goes on their merry ways of owning

At that time spinners were operating and there was no point of carrying out the "Left-Right" hand combination as we all know how UV bats against spinners. Kohli should've come at that time and instead of Dhoni coming next UV should've come after Sachin got out. So UV also would've got enough chance to score runs and get confidence.. Dhoni and UV should never bat together..unless circumstances force them to. Dhoni should stop messing around with India's batting order on huge matches like this. Dhoni shouldn't use these important matches to "give UV some practice"..There are enough matches against Minnows to practice..
