Imo, Dhoni is natural captain. If I am correct, he had not captained any domestic sides before 2007 WC. So it must be a stock to see him become captain in 2007 WC. But really he had great luck and ultimately, he won the 2007 WC. That has been the way of his captaincy, odd moves and when we win, it is great captaincy and when we lose, poor captaincy. It will be the same, and really he still is the best captain, he really brings a control and unpredictibility about our team.

1.poor Batting aswell. When he came out at no 5 instead of Pathan he should have scored at more than a run a ball. 2.His choice of bowler was wrong: sehwag was given rest from SA series for him to recover from sholder injury so he could bowl in WC why didn't he try him bowl. 3.Where the hell has he forgotten his 3rd seamer Virat Kohli he is more than handy bowler. 4.In 1st 10 overs how the hell can a captain defending 338 runs take off 3rd man & fineleg inside circle ?????? If u r defending 238 its ok but not at 338 please. 5. Yusuf Pathan is playing as an all rounder while Yuvvraj as batsmen. 6 overs for Yuvvraj & 3 for Pathan only.

I specially dont understand sending in Yuvraj in place of Kohli. The only logical explanation could be to let Yuvraj have some time in the middle , but horrible decision. Chawla having to bowl the 2nd last over, should never have come to that point. Chawla was horrible and his show of aggression after he got a wicket ( after being hit for 2 sixes) was worse than sreesanth. If sreesanth had this kind of over, this message board would be filled with threads.

Ideally, Dhoni should have not spread the field when Bell came in, he should have had 5 in the ring and not allow them to get easy singles, if that resulted in them coming down and hitting over the top, be it, at least we are making them take a little risk for scoring runs, and its always a pressure chase when the total is in excess of 300, and when you allow easy singles, odd boundaries will come because of short boundaries and quick outfields. SO England never looked under pressure when those two were going on. It was only in the powerplays that Dhoni got men in and had they pushed on in the final 5 for the powerplay instead of taking then, the game would have been all over for us. So a defensive tactics against a good batting line up, but I am sure he has learnt a lesson and will look to improve on it as the tournament progresses. Also, he should have kept Zak for the second last over as he is the most experienced bowler, instead of Chawla, and should have given Chawla instead Zak's final over as Chawla bowled well in the previous over and gave just a couple. And Prior was out in the previous over, so there were two new men as far as England were concerned, and in the process of hitting Chawla, they might have scooped one in one of the fielder's hand, adn who knows the result could have been in our favour. But its never easy taking decisions under that kind of pressure, and now we can analyze and say that he missed the trick here and there, but to be frank, it will be a tad harsh on him if we say he failed, but his tactics weren't aggressive as well, I am sure he will have learn a lesson from this, and will look far better in the coming games :)

yes, his field placing was bizarre, didn't try to put any pressure on the batsmen they scored effortlessly, the poor feilding didn't help either we need a genuine wicket taker(read sreesanth) in the middle overs, rather than part timers at both ends zak and co better start working hard, lest, 450 will be chased down too

It seems to me that had the selectors not picked Ashwin themselves for the squad, Dhoni would have given him the cold shoulder in favour of someone else. MSD comes across as severely biased. This would have been the right time to let Ashwin play because once we get across to the quarters and semis, you need to play with a combination that clicks well; we won't be able to experiment during the crucial stages of the tournament. Ashwin has not played as much as Chawla but he's been pretty economical in the matches he's played so far. I really like the guy because he also seems to bowl well under pressure. As for Nehra, he didn't play because he's not yet been declared fully fit. The worrying thing is that he's never fit most of the time, I really don't know what the deal is with our fast bowlers. Zaheer is the only dependable guy we have so far; once he retires, I shudder to think about the way our pacemen will be leaking runs to opposing teams. India is bleeding because we just don't have death bowlers like the ones in the Australia, South Africa, and even Pakistan squads. I seriously hope Ashwin gets a chance to play now. This is the only time we can afford to experiment.

What I'm saying is that Ashwin has not got a chance yet when he should, because this is the only stage where we can afford to experiment. Granted, the wicket just didn't turn in the second half of the game, but I feel Ashwin would've been far more economical than Yusuf Pathan. We harp too much on 'batting depth' and in the process always compromise on our bowling. Who would you rather pick for slog overs? A specialist bowler or a part timer? I was watching Headlines Today after the match and Saurav Ganguly said the same thing- that we should have more specialist bowlers in our squad instead of depending on part time spinners all the time. Batting doesn't always win you matches- bowling does, and this point was proved in yesterday's match. And it's known that Dhoni was highly keen to get Chawla in the WC squad when the selections were under way.. he may have struck gold against the Aussies but that doesn't mean he can be our fall back guy in every match.

I've always been a fan of Dhoni's captaincy but I was disappointed yesterday with his field placing and his bowling changes. A bowler like Chawla can be very good or very bad, it all depends on the moment and momentum. When he bowled a sudden good over and even got Trott that was the time to keep him going. He bowled just one over after that (admittedly not a particularly good one) but he was still on a bit of a high after that Trott wicket. But he was replaced. Am not convinced that Chawla was a better pick than Ashwin but having picked Chawla bowing him at the right times was crucial. Giving him the 49th? What was Dhoni thinking?

I have a feeling Dhoni isnt imaginative when we have big totals on the board. He prefers to let the opposition make the mistakes. When matches are difficult to win, only then does he attack and tries to make something happen.
