Funny thread. When I was watching him bat today I was commenting that he bats the same way every ODI, be it a bilateral ODI or a game against a minnow or this one against England. Always the same, always the best ODI player that ever played the game.

Hmm...I just had that feeling of watching a younger SRT. Oh well. As long as we enjoyed the batting display in our own way I suppose :--D Any thoughts on his resting for Ireland or Netherland ODI?

Yes, since there is almost a week's gap, there wont be much energy loss in between games even if its a long tournament. We need Goddy to fire on all cylinders if we want to win this cup. And BB did you ready my article on Goddy ? He will surely win it for us this time round. :icflove:

If you debate across eras and comparisons, then it will be difficult to settle anything concretely. Thats why there is always an element of doubt, and thats the reason comparison across different generation of legends is nearly impossible.

What is the element of doubt that you still have after those videos of lallu bowlers were presented and the Bodyline bakwas was laid thread bare ? In any case yoda has acknowledged that there is no comparison as far as quality of bowlers is concerned.

The quality of cricket - and that includes both batting and bowling - has vastly changed from that era to the current era. While the bowlers may have been ordinary, the batsmen like Sir Don Bradman did not have the same coaching and other advantages either. Cricket in those days was different from cricket now - and that applies to all aspects not just batting/bowling. In that era, Don was so clearly ahead of his times, he was peerless. No batsman could even come close to him. If he had played in the current era, would he matched or surpassed SRT? That's hypothetical, and no one can conclude that. What would have happened if both SRT and Bradman played in the same era? Thats the element of doubt, and no one can conclusively prove it (no matter what DB or SRT themselves say about it, since it is still hypothetical).

Not all the bowlers DB faced are lallu bowlers. I was stating that to say, even if we assume that. Why do we consider his achievements of Test quality? The reason is - That *was* Test quality in his era. The comparison can only be at whatever level Test batting and bowling was at that time. How can we even compare it to current era? As I said, if DB were to be playing in today's era, whats to say he cannot get more than hundred 100s? He could have matched or surpassed SRT? We cant say Yes or No for sure. Thats the point. What if he played now? This is the reason why we just have to say Both are legends in their own way.
