Sachin's sixes!

Sixes against England :yay: This is the Sachin I've wanted to see in ODIs! :yay: He had become a more careful batsman, but boy, he got the HEAVY BAT! and dished out some. I think this is why he has got the heavy bat ordered again for this WC. Its good if he continues this strategy of play carefully till he gets to 45-50 runs, and then changes from light bat to heavy bat. Reminded me of Olonga and Paul Strang!: VvFbCzehuKg

BTW - rest SRT against useless matches against Ireland/Netherlands. He was holding his back and seemed to be in some discomfort using the heavy bat for the sixes. Let him recover fully and be fully fit for the SA and WI matches. The Ireland/Netherlands can be an opportunity to give Suresh Raina some batting practice and Sehwag+Gambhir can open.

You're clueless as always.
Thank you. Care to elaborate (is it regarding the resting against Ire/Neth? If so, why can't we win against those minnows without SRT? Or are we supposed to be worried abt those teams also now? SRT being niggle-free against the main teams is crucial in this WC)

^Isn't it important to have Sachin get more match practice and get into his prime rhythm?
SRT needs match practice? :dontknow: He's been in good form and touch for quite sometime now (I am incl. Tests also). His fitness is way more important. Ok, maybe he need not be rested for both Ire and Neth, but at least for one of them. That way the side effect is Raina also gets a match and can be ready if needed for knock out matches.

Any sources on the weight of the bat Tendulkar was using in the match?

It's not only about match practice, it's also about getting into the ODI mode. Many would agree that a gap of 1 year in ODIs takes a toll on one's temperament but not technique for a good extent. He looked good today but he still needs to whack those steyns and Lees and Malingas and Akhtars in this long tournament. Yes, if he really has a niggle then he should rest for either one of the two minnow games but otherwise play everything.

He did seem to have an injury. He was favoring his back after he got to his century and after that didn't try to play any forceful shot - even in power-plays. I hope he gets ok within a week else don't play him next week and give him nearly 2 weeks off.

Ravi Shastri and other commies were talking about it during the live match. Even Ganguly (commentator) was talking about it. Thats the only source I heard yesterday. And previously, there was a thread in ICF(?) - that he had ordered some heavy bats for the WC2011

Yes, around the century time, he was holding his back, and doing some stretching and was in some discomfort. Maybe its minor, but they should give him enough rest if required.

That was only for practice and it's quite commonplace for batsmen to use heavier bats in practice than in actual matches. BTW, did you ever watch Azhar bat - he used one of the lightest bats around and used to clear the ropes with ridiculous ease when in form?

Oh, I am not saying that only because of the heavy bat he is able to hit sixes. I am just talking mainly about his intent to cart the bowlers. Thats good to see. That aggression mixed with the initial cautious approach is very good.

Sachin has always been playing like this. What's new about today?
Well, he seemed more aggressive than in recent times. More like the younger SRT who took the aerial approach for clean sixes.

Not only Sachin but all professional batsmen use heavier bats in practice to increase their bat speeds in an actual game. It's nothing new but since it's Sachin, everything about him makes it to the news:crazy4:

Funny thread. When I was watching him bat today I was commenting that he bats the same way every ODI, be it a bilateral ODI or a game against a minnow or this one against England. Always the same, always the best ODI player that ever played the game.
