Tough to improve fielding, says India skipper Dhoni

In retrospect, Dhoni seems to make a lot of excuses. September 17, 2009: Fielding and bowling must improve - Dhoni December 17, 2009: Dhoni worried by inept fielding And he is still making excuses. A professional brings about change. He doesn't keep complaining and then give up saying, "I don't think we can improve the fielding very much because we have got quite a few slow fielders in the side". What was he doing for 2 yrs? Hatching eggs?

Usually captains like ganguly cannot go after fielders as he himself sucked :cantstop: . But Dhoni has been having a fabulous time behind the stumps. He could go after the fielding unit. I have seen Kapil captaining and Sunny captaining. Both of them were never tolerant to slow moving fielders. He would immediately suggest them run quicker. I know the style of captaincy varies. But you have to be tough when needed. This is a sample of how Border captained When he took over the captaincy from a sobbing Kim Hughes in November 1984, Australia were just ahead of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in the rankings, devoid of Greg Chappell, Denis Lilee ,Rodney Marsh who had all just retired.. Australia were then roundly thrashed by Clive Lloyd's West Indians and Border's men then lost back to back Ashes series in 1985 and 1986/87. However, there were signs that times were a changing. When Dean Jones wanted to go back to the dressing room, 'retired ill' in the searing Madras heat of 1986 during the infamous tied Test, Border gave him a barrelful. "On about 170, I wanted to go off because I was stopping the game every over to be sick" said Jones. "Allan Border then said 'You weak Victorian. I want a tough Australian out there. I want a Queenslander (Greg Ritchie was the next man in).' So I stayed. My last hundred I got in 66 balls because I couldn't run at all. I said 'block, block, I'm going to slog this for four.' Then I'd block until I had enough energy for another go." Jones went on, amid several vomits, to get 210. Jones said it was the defining moment of his career,

Since you’re so adamant that Dhoni messed up, what would you have done if you were in his place?

Shah is a Pakistani.
They had tried loads of trashy pakistan origin players. Then they gave up. Sajid mahmood, Kabir Ali, Amjad Khan (what a joke this guy was), Owais shah now Sahazad. This guy is being hailed as a hero for 1 six that was bowled in the slot. But his main area is bowling which is pure trash. Their best bet is South Africans.

So he is expected to bring about change in our fielding and bowling :cantstop: What is coaching staff supposed to do,clap after a batsman scores a hundred and give throw downs to batsmen?

Kirsten has to take some blame. I know some time back he said he is the faster than any Indian players. They are not working hard. Some of the guys like Munna bhai needs boot camp.

Real mature, mate. If the captain can't get work done from HIS coaching staff, then he must be ashamed about it and not make excuses. Its ludicrous. I ask you again. What has he doing from 19th September '09 to 26th February '11?

Include Sehwag and UV in that.... but then there would probably be a player's revolt:haha:

Even that wouldnt help him ,lethargy has gone deep down in his system :cantstop: but seriously our players keep on harping about how Kirsten has been successfull as a coach ,his low profile attitude but as far as improvements in bowling and fielding department goes I have seen no improvement .I seriously dont know what Mr. Eric Simmons has done since he has joined India team as a bowling coach, our bowlers still dont have any idea of how to bowl in PP or in death overs.May I say Prasad was doing a better job than Simmons .

They're happy with him probably because he doesn't insist on fielding practice or physical exercise. He probably learned from Greg Chappel that Indians are allergic to physical exercise.. Kirsten just wants to keep his job !

Sorry but What are you trying to say here ,a captain after performing in the field should tell coaching staff what the problems are with the side ,and the coaching staff acc. to you may be blinfolded as they cant see for themselves what their players need to improve on.And when that improvement is not seen then the captain should be ashamed that he was unable to get the work done through his coaching staff, superb logic :giggle:

Hmmm.... at least someone says it like it is... a true realist' date=' unlike the blind patriots around here. Glad someone other than me has realized that [b']Sehwag is basically a lazy, indisciplined, selfish player who would have found no place in any other good international team, no matter how prodigious his talent as a batsman !
On the contrary I don't see any team which wouldn't have Sehwag. He's one guy who can win you a match within 15 overs. If Sehwag bats the first 15-20 overs the way he does I don't see India losing too many games. As a case in point let me give you an example... we have Martin Guptill who's an outstanding fielder and an average opener and we have Sehwag on the other hand. I know who I would have in my team and it won't be Guptill. And as for Sehwag being selfish, I don't even know where you are coming from. Sehwag can be termed many things but never selfish. He's the guy who got out on 195 in Aus while going for a 6 even though there were fielders posted on the boundary. He's the chap who got to 300 with a 6. He's the guy who has a strike rate of 80+ in Tests and that too as an opener!!! He's the player who has scored 7000+ runs in odis with a strike rate of more than 103!!! Just because he's not a good fielder doesn't make him "selfish". Pls back your statements with facts else you risk being taken as a wum.
