NareshK Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Its true. Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan, Munaf Patel and even Sehwag, Yusuf Pathan are all average to poor fielders. Yuvraj Singh has slowed down to an extent. That's more than half the side.

Even the fielders inside the ring were far off, what was the use of them being in the ring anyways. They wanted to save boundaries, but every other over, England were scoring one without any risks. Dhoni has to get rid of that negative field settings, team like England, Australia and SA will love that. They will keep milking.

Raina misfielded atleast 3/4 times and Kohli dropped one. I thought the fielding in the PP3 was pretty good and we stopped quite a few singles. The second over by Chawla (after the 2 wkts from ZK's first PP3 over), we had 2 good stops which were certain 4s as there were none behind them. That over went for only 2 runs. He could have kept a few inside the circle and invited the batsmen to go over them during the 15-40 overs when nothing else worked.

And also having a guy or two in catching position We may not stop the 2 from being converted into 3s but we can stop singles and take catches.
singhprakash72 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Lets accept the Fact that Indian Fielding can not be better than it was on Eng's match but I think the BIG blame goes to Dhoni's Field placing ...WHAT ON EARTH WAS HE ALLOWING STRAUSS AND BELL TO SCORE AS EASY AS IT LOOKED ??? Suddenly thanks to Power play the field got closer and tight making English Batsmen take risk !! ...then like someone said he again allowed them to spread ? THINK THOSE 3-4 sixes in last 3 overs would have gone either ways but they would have certainly stopped singles and even got remaining wickets if field placing was tighter !!!

Tendulkar is 37, Sehwag is injured and lazy, Yuvraj is a shadow of his former self, Munaf Patel will always be a cr@p fielder, Zaheer has slight groin strain and was never a good fielder to begin with, Harbhajan is a mediocre fielder at best, Yusuf Pathan again is nothing special. This only leaves just 3 decent fielders in the team once Nehra replaces Chawla - Gambhir, Kohli (who had an off day yesterday) and Dhoni. Either we have a strong batting lineup or a decent fielding side who can't score much - we can't have it both days. I think we have to live with the reality that we will e an average fielding side at best and hope that at least we take our catches.

No wonder you have the likes of Zaheer, Nehra, Munaf and the likes barely wanting to move in the field. Fielding can be improved with more fielding practice. The Indians must be practicing the fielding the least. If these blokes can work on their fielding an hour a day for about 2-3 years they will see improvement. This should have been done since the time they have been in international. You don't need to be diving and sliding but at least they could run a bit quicker in the outfield though. They need to be way fitter than they are at the moment and also work regularly on the fielding. Some of the efforts is not befitting international cricket.

Jonty's presence for the team was such an energy booster, he's a little firecracker and many Indians love him. ..I'm not aware of the second South African in India's coaching dept besides Gary Kirsten.. who is it?

All we ask is stop the balls that come straight to you cleanly and throw it back. All we ask is run as fast as you could to get to the ball. The expectation we have is pretty low. They don't even meet that expectation.
