desi pride 1234 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 How can you be so sure? The stats for the last year or so suggest that India will have major problems as Yuvraj is averaging 29' date=' Raina 35 and dhoni 37. These are not the sort of stats you want your no. 4 or middle order to have. Plus we have all seen how India has collapsed in case they lose couple of early wkts. You need a solid batsman like Kohli to bat through the middle innings without taking undue risks. Plus pls elaborate "Kohli's bowling sucks" by comparing his stats with Raina's[/quote'] what if kohli fails @ 4? yuvi, raina, dhoni has to do the consoldiation job right? kohli is a solid batsman. but i would rather have raina instead of kohli. if yusuf dropped and raina plays in the playing 11, then who would u ask to bowl? raina or kohli?:--D. kohli's bowling sucks. remember champions trophy match against pakistan?
desi pride 1234 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 Tell me the Raina's bowling accomplishments. 111 matches 7 wickets. You call that a skill? If you are purely going for a 5th bowler you would rather want to have a specialist bowler like Ashwin rather than a below average bowler like Raina. If Raina is going to walk into INdian side it will be purely for his batting not for his bowling. Sure he can come in place of Kohli provided Kohli has few failures. Kohli is in red hot form. Has been our crisis man for a while. if raina plays insted of yusuf, then who would u ask to bowl? kohli or raina?:--D

But who would you back to succeed more - a guy averaging 50 or a guy averaging 29 (or 35)? It's all about giving yourself the best chance to win and Kohli gives us that. And that match against Pak was played more than 2 years back and Kohli's game has improved beyond belief since then. As for "Kohli's bowling sucks", pls refer to the stats I provided and looks like Raina "sucks" the same amount.

Raina is my 12th man to be played in case any of the top 7 batsmen gets injured. Yusuf has outperformed Raina in the recent past and deserves the spot. Plus I sure wouldn't select Raina for his bowling given the fact he has taken all of 1 WKT over the last year !!!

Ultimate_Game Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 raina used to share the middle overs with yuvi in the past before yusuf burst into the scene. Again, the stats for the last year and his overall bowling stats doesn't suggest so. Before Yusuf came we had Irfan and Jadeja and they were the ones who were used as the 5th bowlers. Don't think Raina was ever used as a bowler regularly ever.
spectre Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Its absurd to compare Raina with Kohli. Kohli for all this performances has got the best place to bat, coming in at No.3, taking his own time to settle down, striking at 60-70s and then hit towards his end innings. Compare that to Raina, coming in at pressure situation, striking at 100 for word go, has to take all the risks for setting targets and also chasing down targets which has gone above 7-8 rpo. Offcourse he is going to score a lot more runs and have a better average than Raina, becuase in ODI these days, 70% of the runs are scored by the top 4. You have to pick players on their positions and not compare their roles in the team. Its as absurd as comparing Sachin and Bevan. Sure Bevan hasnt scored many centuries as much as Sachin nor has the career runs as Sachin does, but he has been instrumental in Aussies winning a hell a lot of matches. Raina was sent at No.3 in Asia cup, and guess who was the top scorer in that tournament. Kohli had it easy, Raina has not. Raina should bat at No.6 no matter who gets dropped for it
Manny_Pacquiao Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 only way raina is going to get a game is if someone gets injured. kohli is in great form and he isnt going anywhere. u guys need to be realistic the only change i can see india making is yusuf for a 5th bowler. the batting lineup is set in stone
vvvslaxman Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 if raina plays insted of yusuf' date=' then who would u ask to bowl? kohli or raina?:--D[/quote'] Yuvraj will have to complete 10 overs along with Kohli or Sachin. It is not like India was depending on Raina's bowling before. Even Rohit Sharma have bowled a few overs. Just because Raina has bowled more overs in ODIs than Kohli won't make him a great bowler.

vvvslaxman Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 what if yusuf is injured and raina gets his chance? who would u ask to bowl? kohli or raina? Can i modify the question.. who would u ask to bowl? Tendulkar or Raina? Sehwag or Raina? Gambhir or Raina? SO Raina can come in place of any of the three players based on his bowling "prowess". Make no mistake. I am a huge fan of Raina. He is a genuine match winner and a team player. But it will be very unfair to drop world no.3 ranked player like Kohli. If i am forced to pick Raina i would drop Yusuf. In my view Yusuf is always a hit and miss player. He sure did well in SA. But he can be exposed on any given day more than Raina.

achilles Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Sure dude. Also, lets drop Munaf Patel and pick Kapil Dev in his place.

India's problem is not part time bowling. I am repeating it 1000th time. India's problem is lack of wicket taking options. We don't have attacking bowlers who can pick up wickets. I don't mind Yuvi, Yusuf going for few extra runs as long as the other 4 do their job. Problem against England was barring Zaheer in the late end everyone was crap. If a team manages to beat the heck out of those 6 they sure would beat the crap out of Raina as well. It is not like Raina has a magic delivery.

Give me an explanation please. Use the same explanation for Kohli.
Sid Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Now the fans want to drop Kohli and pick Raina in the side for his part time bowling :cantstop:
