So promoting education is not important? :D Universities dont confer honorary doctorates to celebrities to promote education, they do it to get some piggyback publicity and more admissions and consequently more revenue. IMO all honorary doctorates should be banned.

India doesn't need Higher Education promotions.. However if the offer would've come from the University of Lahore..then, I would've agreed about the need to promote education..:--D

The Air Force doesnt look to attract talent for financial benefit, but rather the manpower which is more inclined to join the private sector nowadays.

Not for the university but for the students as they are the capable ones and could have landed in a much better university rater than such universities which need to honour reall ife celebrities in order to woo the students to join them got it ? :winky:

Tendulkar visited the university, interacted with the faculty, saw the education being imparted, inspected the facilities and concluded that it is a shithole in which he would not want good students to go to.

If the the students are capable, then its an unintended benefit. Thats why you have so many movie stars getting the doctorates too, the whole process generates a lot of PR for the university/college. Even if the celebrity refuses, it still makes good amount of news. With a huge number of colleges sprouting up in the country with 90% of them being below par, they are desperately looking to differentiate themselves from others and become sought after in the admissions queue. Some give ads on TV and newspapers, construct huge buildings and get politicians to inaugurate them. The newer ones with less money to spend, use doctorates as a shortcut to some mainstream publicity.

I don't know about you, but last time I checked (& applied and got rejected :hysterical:), they don't seem to have trouble attracting capable students :haha:
