If #1 saw two silver crowns, he'd know he had a gold crown. Since he didn't know, he must have seen at least one gold crown. #2 knows this, so if he saw a silver crown on #3, he'd know that he (#2) must have a gold crown. But he didn't know, hence he must have seen gold crown on #3. And that is how blind #3 deduced that he had a gold crown.
WTF........whats the point of asking the puzzle if you are going to just ignore my answer and give your own answer. :whack:

well your very first assumption of 7 combinations is wrong we have 5 things that can be arranged in 3 places which can be done in 5P3=20 ways

7 possibilities is right. His method is correct, although he hasnt given proper reasoning in crossing out the comibinations....:D You use 5P3=60 only when the 5 things are all of different types...

I thought it was self explanatory. So i did not explain it through. Alright, I will explain why I crossed them out. 1 2 b ------ g g g s g g s g s g g s s s g g s g g s s--X In the first two combos you can see if the 2nd and 3rd guys have gold crowns, the first guy can have either gold or silver crown. In the 3rd and 4th combo if 2nd guy wears gold and 3rd guy silver crown, still the first guy can wear either gold or silver crown. same case for the next two combos as well except for the last combo where if 2nd and 3rd guys wear silver crown and the first guy would for sure know he is wearing gold, he did not know what he wore hence I struck it out. Same case for the second guy too. If the first guy wore gold or silver and the third guy wore silver crown the 2nd guy would know he is wearing gold. Hence those two combos are struck out too. 1 2 b ------ g g g g s g s g g s s g g g s--X s g s--X So finally the blind dude is left with 4 possible combinations 1 2 b ------ g g g s s g s g g g s g :hitler:

You didnt write this in your earlier post. Thru this reasoning, you can deduce 3rd guy cant be wearing silver, Hence he HAS to be wearing Gold. Hence, the question is solved, no need to strike out the combinations...:icflove:
