Why on the earth he did not reverse his decision, impact was outside the off stump and that clearly means not out. Why was it not overturned. The batsman was Wilson, who was looking good.

I don't know what happened but I am not to impressed w/ SL umpires (esp. Dharmasena) .... From what you posted, this appears to be another bad call by an on-field umpire but hey who knows WI could be destined to knock out SL in the QF!

thats the rule, if impact is outside the line of offstump, you cna't be give out if you are playing the shot. doesn ot matter if ball was hitting the stump or not.

The official word is that Ashocka thought that Wilson wasn't playing a shot as his bat was behind his pad.. Personally, I think Ashocky is a lil arrogant sob with lotsa insecurities.

Interesting, I didnt know this. But what about swinging balls. Surely there have been lbws given when the impact is outside the off.

ganeshran, This is an age-old rule. Whether ball is swinger or gay or whatever, its Not-out (unless no-shot offered). Umpires cannot give it out, except if they (umpire) give a 'wrong' decision. BTW-how long u been watching cricket? (no offense, just curious, this is a very common rule)

Have been following cricket for 15 years now...even though I have never gone through the lbw rule book before, just imagined that umpires are usually hesitant to give it out in case the impact is outside. I didnt know the fact it was a documented rule.
