zen Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 The high pressure games are coming up for group B (Grp A has had an easy going comparatively) w/ Eng, WI and BD playing to stay in the competition. The Eng vs WI game is probably the most important as if Eng loses, WI and BD go through automatically. A tie will make things more interesting though. So far Eng performance has been up and down. The team has done well when it was expected to lose and badly when it was expected to win. Again WI, Eng is expected to win so I won't be surprised if the pressure to win and stay in the competition gets better of Eng and they get knocked out. WI is a dangerous team in such situation, they somehow have the ability to increase pressure on teams that are under pressure! BD vs SA will be a must win for BD, if Eng wins it game. Ind vs WI will be a must win game for WI, if Eng wins its game. Ind will only be under pressure if both Eng and BD win. And in that case, it will have to beat WI. I guess, BD and WI fans would be hoping that WI wins to make things easier for grp B but are things suppose to get easier? :grin: One good thing is that the fate of each team depends upon its own hands! Tomorrow is the day that would either settle group B QF places or put even more pressure on it. The knock out begin from tomorrow!!

In that case, India and Eng will be both at 7 points, and we will easily have a higher RR. We do not have to win against WI.

I for one would love if we played Pak at some point.. doesn't matter when, I just want that day to come.

If they lose their games then things become murkier for them. To keep the hopes alive the least they have to do is win their game :winky:

Group B has been reffered to from the start as the group of death, where literally anything was possible. And at the business end of the group stage, it would seem that indeed anything is possible Alot of the group excitement has been generated by the undying English, who in my opinion have earned their place in the quarters for simply not knowing when to quit. Every game that they have played in has been a thrill, and while they have not always produced the finest cricket, they have shown the grit and determination of a team playing for more than simply advancing, but for pride and honour after their failure down under. England, my hat is off to you :hatsoff: Now to business, with just two important games left in group B, only South Africa are assured of a quarterfinal position. England's fate is out of their hands now, and they must watch from the sidelines as their judgement is rendered. Aside from the Ireland/Netherlands game, which should be used by fans as a chance to calm down, two games remain in the group. On Saturday South Africa take on Bangladesh. Unlike the English, the fate of Bangladesh now lies exclusively with them, and they must beat the group leading South Africans to advance. We have all seen the kind of pressure that the Bangladesh team is under from it's fans, and the repercussions of failure. Well, it's do or die time for Bangladesh, who will have to play like true Tigers to topple the leading South Africans. One glimmer of light for Bangladesh is that Graeme Smith is considering altering his team for the final game, giving Steyn a rest and bringing in Lonwabo Tsotsobe. Whether this can be considered good or bad for the Bangladesh batsman, I'll let you decide. Then, the final match of the group sees West Indies take on the hosts India. This game will take place after the SA/Bangladesh game, so the West Indies will know exactly what they need to do to secure their quarterfinal spot. It won't be easy, India are still hurting from their surprise loss to South Africa, and are under a great deal of scrutiny following a truly legendary batting collapse. There is no doubt that India will show no mercy to the men from the West Indies, especially if a victory could see them claim the top spot in the group. The match against Engalnd has shown great talent in the West Indies batting and bowling lineup, but also a tendancy to lose wickets in quick succession, a problem which has vexed nearly every team in the World Cup. India will have an advantage, they will have watched the Engalnd/West Indies game and will know the weaknesses of their opponents, invaluable considering the influence they will have in the pitch preparation for their match. All in all, I'd say we can look forward to some of the most intense cricket we've ever seen, and whoever emerges on the other side victorius, I think we can all agree, its going to be one hell of a ride!
Switchblade Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I said it in 1 of the threads that today and saturdays game would be awesome have had 1 of them in which Westindies due to their stupidity lost the game they have done it in the past as well all I can say is S.A dont take their game lightly i also think that they,l like to take revenge of their loss in 2007 as far as we are concerned hope that we have learned frm our mistakes

If BD wins then it has to hope the WI loses to Ind. WI has to hope that BD loses and it doesn't lose to Ind by a huge margin, or has to beat Ind Interesting!
