He was the one making tall claims and statement in almost every series about taking the fieldsman's word and walking, etc. He deserves all the flak

Almost nobody does and in a professional sport I don't expect anyone to and that's why we were p*ssed off at Dhoni and our bowlers for not appealing for edges Strauss had instead of Strauss. And that's why we were upset at Bucknor for not giving Symonds out and not Symonds for not walking. If another player or captain, say Smith, hadn't walked it would have been fine but in Ponting's case the point is the double standards and hypocrisy. He is the guy who talked about "taking fielder's word", "honesty and integrity" and similar bullc**p. India paid dearly for it in our last tour when Kumble took him at his face value. Not all the other players have proposed and preached this stuff other than Ponting and when the time comes to walk the walk he backs off and suddently the new rule is "I am out only if the umpire says so".

Not a big issue. The game of cricket is at a different competitive level nowadays. There aren't too many batsmen who walks every time on those situations specially when they were in bad form. Only two batsmen I have noticed do/did it regularly is Sanga and Gilcrist. I remember Sanga walked in a match against Eng where bowler and the the WK didn't even appeal. I am surprised you ask this question. Probably you didn't watch the Batnor's swansong and Ponting's acting. And probably it's not always the best idea to compare everyone and every incident with Sachin, unless you are fan boy :giggle:

BTW, I dont support batsmen walking and dont have much issues with Ponting standinng his ground this time. Umpires/tech are there for a reason

It would've been nice if he'd walked.. He's not saying he had to, is he? Just saying it would of been nice.. I don't see the point in staying at the crease when you know you have knicked it, especially now with the referrals in place. Ponting is not doing his image any good at this WC for several reasons. First it was the tv, then his little dummy with Smith and now this.. Oh but miost importantly he is playing like ****. as he has for some time..

Ponting has been cheat in several instances but not last night. It's his right not to walk, there's a paid umpire standing making a decision. That said Ponting was always going to be found out, I'd say he's dumb for standing his ground knowing fully well DRS will be used or he's in such a bad nick he was devastated to have hit the ball so panicked by the usual practice of not walking. Not walking is not cheating, Tendulkars, Dravids don't walk either. This is not a kids cricket club officiated by parents as umpires, there are paid umpires doing the job and it's your choice not to walk.
