Australia’s batting consultant Justin Langer, who appears very keen to succeed Gary Kirsten as Team India coach, had a lengthy tete-a-tete with him on Friday. The Kirsten-Langer meeting took place in the Momo Café at the Courtyard Marriott in Ahmedabad. They were, in fact, together for two hours. Of that period, they were alone for around thirty minutes. In the remaining time, a support staff member from both the Indian and Australian teams was present. Neither was available for a comment, but The Telegraph understands that any recommendation from Kirsten, to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, would carry weight. no experience, but it doesn't matter. gary didnt have any either. langer was supremely fit in his time as a player, and he was a great professional. once he lost his spot to michael slater in the australian team, the first thing he did was congratulate him. eventually he became the other half of a great opening partnership. i think he has a black belt in taekwondo or something. never talked much, pretty low profile character. i think he is a good replacement. like kirsten, he wasnt the most talented batsman but a very hard working one who never gave his wicket away. very gritty. this isnt a quality that many young indian batsmen have, so a coach like him could be very useful. i hope they get JL. he is almost like a clone of gary kirsten, the more i think about it. he can carry on doing what gary did

Langer is a fighter and am sure he will do well to continue the good work of Gary. I like Fleming, but him and Dhoni seem to be really close to each other...which might create a power nexus :P

Hope they do not hire Langoti as the coach. I am not convinced about Langoti and would not want an Aussie coach too. Saffer would still be a better coach IMO. I would go for Jonty or Pollock maybe if required. If needed I would hire both.

If needed? we badly need a fielding guru and a bowling guru...and BCCI has enough money to have a coach per player.:--D Jhonty as coach would be awesome!!!:clap:

Wright was a puppet. He was sacked the minute he revolted. Check out Sunny Gavaskar's piece on it. He was miffed with all the seniors for mistreating someone who took the team to #2 in the world. Greg was no puppet and we all know what happened, don't we? Bottomline - Employ puppets. They will shut up, take your crap and let you look great. On the flipside, employ a tough cookie and discipline might take an upswing. And we so need it.

Wright apparently told Ganguly that his time was up after the Bangalore tests vs Pakistan in 2005 and Ganguly didn't take it well. The team had a farewell dinner for Wright which Ganguly didn't attend. According to Wright, there was a problem only at the end but they sorted it out before he left.
